Horse Racing Tips - Daryl Carter Best Bets On Thursday, September 16

Top tipster Daryl Carter has five bets for Thursday’s racing. Check out his thoughts below, with selections backable via William Hill’s exclusive bet £10 get £60 sign up offer.

TOPANTICIPATION (3.50 Yarmouth, 1.5pt each-way, 11/2)

There are plenty of flashy types at the top of this market, but the truth is, none of them has achieved a great deal to suggest they are miles ahead of the handicapper, so it may be a good opportunity to look down the field. TOPANTICIPATION is a nine-race maiden but took a good step forward at York behind a well-handicapped rival and pulled 13 lengths clear of the field.

Adam Farragher keeps the ride, which means she is 2lbs lower here, and that was her first attempt at 1m4f. She is unexposed at this staying trip, and she has some good form in defeat this season, and she leaves the impression there is more to come. She has now run two excellent races in the hood (latest and behind Dublin Pharaoh in a good Class 4 race), and the drying ground will be in her favour.

MANGO BOY (4.25 Yarmouth, 2pt win, 11/4)

MANGO BOY looks very well treated here off an opening handicap mark of 78, and he looks impossible to oppose should he continue to progress now entering handicaps. He was very keen on debut at Newmarket behind two very useful Godolphin horses rated 92 and 108 but did well to finish fourth within five lengths of the winner (4 lengths off 2nd).

In third was the 89 rated and unexposed Hydros (was receiving weight), and he built on that debut performance at Kempton behind another Godolphin horse in Mo’assess (93) and recent York winner Aramaic who bolted up on handicap debut off a handicap mark of 87 and is now rated 94. He was beaten four lengths on that occasion with nine lengths back to the remainder, and Jack Mitchell was easy on him at the finish.

He stayed on well there and looked like a step up in trip was on the cards, and connections did just that at Ripon next time, but he failed to handle the track and was all over the place on the undulations and did well to finish second. This looks more like his bag. His trainer does well here at Yarmouth with a 26% strike rate in 3yo+ races when running a three-year-old, and he will surely be leaving this lenient opening handicap mark behind in no time.

CRAZY LUCK (3.25 Pontefract, 1pt win, 3/1)

CRAZY LUCK would have likely won a Salisbury last time if not for Mountain Brave cutting in front of her, forcing jockey John Egan to stop his run, and the finishing effort gave confidence that this 1lb higher mark is well within reach.

She has progressed all season and doesn’t look done just yet, with this stiff track likely to see her to best effect. Her form at Ascot, all be it worth taking with a pinch of salt, has taken multiple boosts. She looks the most progressive in the field and should get a good pace to aim at. Her stablemate Silent Flame can follow her home.

PLATINUMCARD (4.45 Ayr, 1pt each-way, 8/1)

PLATINUMCARD offers a bit of value in the morning markets and may be able to take his course record from 2-2 to 3-3 now dropped back to his optimum trip.

He was a blatant non-stayer at Hamilton last time but shaped as though he was still in good form, and he has been a revelation since switching to the flat. He has scored in four of his seven starts but has excuses for his three defeats (two over 1m4f – non-stayer and one in a slowly run affair when not best positioned).

His form here at Ayr holds significant substance, and his unexposed profile at this trip (2-3) is a big draw in this contest, and there is no reason why he won’t go well again.

Stalls 9, 10, and 11 have won five of the last six runnings, so a wide draw is not a hindrance, and he faces many rivals who are handicapped to their best

VELMA (5.10 Pontefract, 0.5pt each-way, 20/1)

This is a bit punty, so I wouldn’t blame you sitting this one out given the current form, but VELMA has fallen 10lbs below her last winning handicap mark, and she has a good record off the back of a break with form figures of 7 (finished on the bridle behind a wall of horses), 1, 2, 4 (debut).

The seventh was hugely eye-catching behind a horse now 34lbs higher. Her win at Newcastle was very cosily done, beating horses now rated 69, 67 and 70. Her second was a short head behind Old Harbour over 7f when just denied as she closed right to the line. She may be the horse to catch when fresh, and she is well-handicapped off this mark of 64 in a weak enough class four on return.
