SUMMER’S DAY – (1.40 Doncaster, 1pt win – 4/1)
SUMMER’S DAY impressed at Brighton showing an improved manner about her racing to win going away smoothly. The time figure was nothing to shout about, but she was eased down in the closing stages, and she only put her head down to race inside the final furlong before William Buick eased off her.
The performance screamed that she had more to come, and today’s extra 1/2 a furlong will undoubtedly suit her, as will the flat track. On debut here, she was far too green to do herself justice and over-exuberant throughout the race but finished like a horse that had plenty of ability. Connections clearly knew she would be keen to apply the first time hood, and Royston Ffrench was aboard to teach her to race.
Next time, at Ripon shaped like the best horse in the race but failed to handle the undulations when trying to change her legs as she loomed up to challenge the now 84 rated and subsequent winner. That race left the impression that she should have won, so this opening handicap mark of 81 could easily underestimate her now up slightly in trip and back on a flat track. Plenty of her form lines tie in with a number of these to suggest she could have their measure, and the handicapper has rated her on three runs but two of which she has had excuses. She needs to step forward again, but that’s highly likely.

JAZZ CLUB – (2.10 Doncaster, 1pt win – 11/2)
It’s well worth sticking with JAZZ CLUB, who impressed with his finishing effort at Windsor and should have plenty more to come on that evidence. He caught the eye at Nottingham before that when behind the useful 100 rated Wings Of War, who was only touched off by 1/2 a length by Ever Given at York, and that form sets the standard.
He was caught in a pocket and ran green before powering home on the wrong side of the track. He was outpaced at a crucial stage in the race and gave the first run to the winner on that occasion. That suggests that this extra 1/2 a furlong will suit, and he looks the type to benefit from first-time blinkers. Roger Varian is showing a £13.50 (79.4%) profit with runners wearing blinkers.

GOLDEN PASS – (3.15 Doncaster, 1.5pt each-way – 10/1) (4 places – Sky Bet)
With our selection now a non-runner, I’ve turned to GOLDEN PASS, who has valid excuses for her latest flop (bloods were wrong) at Newbury and has plenty in her favour on this occasion. The fast ground and the step up in trip both look big positives and given she has had Urban Artist, Eileendover, and Free Wind in behind previously, it’s hard to kick her out of the frame.
She is open to significant improvement up to the trip on the evidence of her Newmarket victory, where she gamely battled back and won going away once headed by Free Wind. Save A Forest would be best served if the rain were to fall, as would standard-setter Tribal Craft, so I struggle to see her out of the frame unless I am missing something?

DOLPHIN VISTA – (3.25 Epsom, 0.5pts win – 11/2)
I am a big fan of course form at Epsom, and DOLPHIN VISTA has run two very creditable races here the last twice and deserves to get his head in front now tackling lesser company. He bumped into a promising unexposed three-year-old last time when a fast-finishing third and his run prior came in Class 4 company, and he went close at Windsor before that.
He has looked rejuvenated with the fitting of the visor, and this is a career-low handicap mark. He may be worth a small bet to land the odds by tackling a weaker race than his last three in this headgear.
