I like this race. It’s pretty competitive, and Striking A Pose has not been missed by the bookmakers but OUR POWER may have been underestimated a touch. He ran with extreme credit on chase/seasonal debut at Kempton but struggled to hold his position through the mid part of the race over the 2m2f trip.
I am hoping that this step up in distance today and the improvement in the fitness department will see him in a better light. He did win second time out in 2018 and 2020, and he is the one in the field that has proven he can go a good gallop with his latest time figure reading favourably in this field.
The long home straight at Wincanton should see him to good effect – providing connections don’t give him too much to do. He is 1lb below his last winning hurdle mark, and he is expected to take a step forward today with his price offering a bit of value.

EARTH COMPANY (1:30 Wincanton, 3pt win 5/2)
I am off to Wincanton today, so no surprise both selections come from there. EARTH COMPANY, I thought, was the best bet on the card taking on Brief Times who has been under-priced on this return to a right-handed track. He jumped out to the left quite violently at Exeter when setting the fractions, and he may not get away with that on this tighter track today.
Earth Company did us a good turn at Taunton last time skipping clear of his rivals with a career-best effort. He is entitled to improve further on that performance and has proven to have no issue with this track. His bumper run here last November suggest he may have been let in lightly off 124 by the handicapper, and his unexposed profile after just two starts over hurdles is very appealing.
The likes of Oakley and Sofia’s Rock have achieved more, but the former makes his seasonal return for a new yard, and the latter is likely to fight out the lead with Brief Times, which should set things up for Tom O’Brien on the selection.
