DEMACHINE (1.30 Newbury, 1pt win 7/2)
This is not as deep as it first looks on paper with favourite Sevarano flattered by his handicap mark of 148 and Earth Moor picking up a weak race at Fontwell.
The suggestion is DEMACHINE who has now won twice for this column and can continue winning ways at the expense of the improving Equus Dancer. The selection has recorded the strongest time figures and has the strongest form on offer in the field and he doesn’t look done improving yet.
He lost ground out to his left at Ascot and a return to a left-handed track should see him in an even better light. A handicap mark of 140 still looks well within range given how his race at Uttoxeter has worked out and the six-year-old surely has more to come after a comfortable success last time.
He is arguably the most improved horse of the season for the switch to fences and should take some stopping in an attempt to rack up the hat-trick.

WILDE ABOUT OSCAR (3.15 Newbury, 1.5pts win 15/2)
This race features the best British novice hurdlers this season so Bravemansgame and recent column winner Star Gate are very much respected but WILDE ABOUT OSCAR took a big step forward at Aintree for the step up in trip and is favoured.
Dan and Harry Skelton are having a fine season and their five-year-old is also on a steep upward curve. He recorded a final circuit time faster than the Class 2 hurdle on the card won by Summerville Boy (155) despite being eased down inside the final 150 yards.
The first four in that comparative race was filled by horses rated 155, 155, 157 and 155 and the selection was only fractionally slower from three out to the finish (eased down). He looks to have a promising future and has plenty more to come so is a confident selection to play his hand in the finish.

FUNAMBULE SIVOLA (3.45 Newbury, 1pt win 13/2)
FUNAMBULE SIVOLA shaped well for a long way in a much more competitive race than this at Sandown and it’s likely he failed to see out the longer trip on soft ground. He made four serious blunders at his fences as the pace quickened, which knocked the stuffing out of him, but even off this 5lb higher mark he remains of serious interest.
The drop back to 2m looks a good move and it’s hard to ignore the excellent time figure he put in at Wetherby on his chase debut over this trip so is worth chancing despite being worse off at the weights with Exelerator Express back down in grade.
