Known – (1.50 Warwick, 1pt each-way – 6/1)
It’s worth taking a chance on KNOWN who could have things fall just right here with the step up in trip and the sounder surface now both in his favour. He starts out for his new yard after leaving Nicky Henderson and he has shown enough in five starts over hurdles to suggest he is more than capable of winning a Maiden Hurdle. His two best efforts have come when fresh so the 117 day break should have done him the world of good and on the balance of both of those starts at Huntingdon and at Ascot he really ought to be making his presence felt in a race like this. Java Point will be popular but he was well positioned in a slowly run race and he has failed to see out the longer trip previously.

Prince Kayf – (2.35 Newcastle, 1pt win – 8/1)
PRINCE KAYF has shown very little in two starts since returning from a mammoth absence of 400 days but he is too well-handicapped to ignore at the prices in a race in which many of his rivals look weighted to their best. The return to Newcastle for which he ran his two best races under rules looks a big positive and while the ground will likely be quick enough he could still prove a different proposition returned to this track. His preference could be for a longer trip and deeper ground but at the morning prices he is worth taking a small chance on.

Laskadine – (3.45 Newcastle, 1pt win – 9/4)
The quicker surface may not be ideal for LASKADIN but she is a good to soft ground winner previously and this is a much weaker race than she faced last time when turned out quickly at Doncaster. She ran well to finish fourth on that occasion but the quick turn around on the back of a heavy ground 11 length win at Sedgefield likely proved too much. This is now a drop in grade and she returns to the track she was an impressive winner at in December and it would be folly to think that she doesn’t have more to offer given the manner of her last two victories and with nothing in this race having clocked the time figures she has she gets the vote.
BACK LASKADINE AND GET £40 IN FREE BETS
Brecon Hill – (4.00 Fakenham, 1pt each-way – 10/1)
The well-handicapped BRECON HILL looks by far the most interesting runner in this race so a chance is taken that he can capitalise on this much reduced handicap mark in a race that lacks depth. The eight-year-old reverts back to hurdles after showing little this season over fences but has dropped down the handicap from a mark of 128 (Sept 20) to a rating of 115. He is now 15lbs lower than his last hurdle run despite not running in this sphere all season and it was only three starts ago over hurdles he was fourth in the Grade 2 Dovecote (2019). This represents his easiest task over hurdles for quite some time and at a double figure price he is worth siding with to bounce back to form after showing some zest in a Jumper Bumper race on the AW.
