This is a bit of a shot in the dark simply because this is a poor race, but FALCON SUN is extremely well treated if bouncing back to his best, so it’s interesting his trainer sends him back to Leicester for which he has a 2-2 100% record.
The other eye-catching point of interest is trainer Micheal Roberts’ record here which is 2-4 50%. The trainer has also gone to useful conditional Angu Cheleda for the first time, and his current 30/1 with Betfair is too tempting to pass up for a win only bet.

HEAD LAW – (12:50 Newbury, 1pt each-way – 12/1 generally)
I Am Maximus is worthy of plenty of respect, but his price is simply far too short. I am happy to take him on with HEAD LAW, who shaped with a good deal of promise back in October at Bangor behind the useful Washington, and that form looks as good as any if you stop the race two out when he was travelling strongly.
He blew up subsequently, which is no surprise given that run came on the back of a 354-day break and was his first start in Britain for his new yard. JP McManus has picked up a few French recruits this season, and this one cost 150,000euros after a promising bumper win at Le Mans. This is his second start after a wind operation, and is now fitted with a first time tongue-tie. And if he improves for that run, he should be right in the mix, and I am certainly not running scared of this favourite.

QUARTZ DU RHEU – (1.25 Newbury, 2pts win – 7/2 generally)
QUARTZ DU RHEU has continued to improve since stepping up to 3m, and today’s track should really suit his strong finishing kick. This race has little depth to it and there looks to be no reason to abandon him after a good sprint finish win at Carlisle last time off 2lbs lower.
Valsheda is an unknown quantity, but the hurdle form doesn’t amount to much, while I K Brunel is usually best when fresh, so expecting him to build on that effort today could be dangerous. Tide Times and Colonial Dreams are interesting, particularly the latter if taking to fences at the first time of asking, but they both have a small way to go to match the recent form of the improving six-year-old selection.
