DESQUE DE L’ISLE – (1.45 Ludlow,, 1pt win – 4/1 generally)
Not all of these will be able to lead, but five of the seven do like to be ridden forward if not making the running, and that should ensure a strong pace is on offer. This race has the potential to collapse, and that could benefit DESQUE DE L’ISLE, who likes to be ridden patiently and didn’t get the race run to suit at Sandown last time. Venetia Williams has won this race three times from seven entrants and has placed second and third amongst those.
Her winners were rated 125, 120 and 124, so she knows what type of horse it takes to win this contest. Her progressive eight-year-old gave the impression there was more to come when upped in class and fourth at Sandown earlier this month, and the form has worked out well with the fifth scoring next time. Charlie Deutsch back in the saddle is a positive move, and he has been better than the bare result on multiple occasions, so he gets the nod to continue his progress.

DUBLIN FOUR was an impressive winner at Newbury on seasonal return and did his best work at the finish over 2m4f, so today’s step back up in trip should see him to even better effect.
He is very lightly raced for a seven-year-old, especially over this trip, but he looks every inch a stayer. He will likely need to underperform for any of these to get close to him, and he remains one to be optimistic about going forward.

JUMIRA BRIDGE – (15:55 Southwell, 1pt e/w – 25/1 generally)
This is again a bit punty, but it’s worth taking a chance on JUMIRA BRIDGE, who sees the tongue-tie return for the first time since April (6 runs). In that time, he has been dropped 12lbs in the handicap from a mark of 70 down to 58. He ran well two starts back at Wolverhampton in a good Class 4 event and is now into a Class 6 for just the seventh time in his career with form figures reading 861120.
However, if we look at those over five furlongs with the tongue-tie, they read 1 and 2, and both of these runs came in the last year off of handicap marks of 59, and his second-placed effort was a neck defeat off the back of a break in a re-applied tongue-tie. He is worth chancing at big odds given he was 16/1 and 3/1 under similar conditions previously, and it’s clear connections have been trying to drop the handicap mark. This could be their Xmas bonus?
