The ground is a little concerning for THYME WHITE, but this is a golden opportunity too good to pass up for connections, no doubt. He threw Harry Cobden off before the first at Ascot when I strongly fancied him for a much more competitive race than today’s, and to repeat what I said 12 days ago, this drop in class should see him to best effect.
He caught the eye at Wincanton hitting the line hard on chase and seasonal debut, and he faces nothing of the calibre of opponents here. In my opinion, anything bigger than even money looks like a good bet.

THE COB – (2.13 Doncaster, 2pts win – 7/2 bet365)
Plenty of these arrive here having questions against their current form, so this could be a golden opportunity for THE COB, who needed a stiffer test than at Sandown last time on seasonal return but put in another improved performance. It remains to be seen how high he can climb the handicap, but he should have no trouble at least making his presence felt on this drop in grade now race fit.
The ground was likely on the quick side at Sandown, and today’s race should turn into a real test of stamina and suit him well. This is also a return to the scene of his admittedly weak Grade 2 win in January, and he has few negatives to his chances today.

NESTOR PARK – (2.35 Newbury, 1pt win – 15/2)
NESTOR PARK likes it here at Newbury, and he looks to have been missed by the market. The front two in Saint Palais and Gericault Roque are very respected, but the selection was runner-up in this contest last term under this rider and arrives just two pounds higher (4 including the jock claim).
He has had a prep run for this, so it has clearly been the target and the rain received is in his favour again. It’s possible he might bump into one, but Newbury is a stiff test of jumping and having had the experience that very few in this race have had, it could give him an edge. He has a good handicap in him, and all the dominos looked stacked right today.

FERN HILL – (3.35 Newbury, 1pt win – 4/1)
FERN HILL gets the vote here after shaping as though he had a bit left in the tank when second on reappearance at Uttoxeter. He improved for the run last term, winning at Wetherby in good style, and I am hoping for similar here.
He shaped as though another attempt at this trip was well worth a try, and the form of his latest neck second sets the standard in this contest. His jumping needs to have improved today but given that was his chase debut, he is entitled to improve. He looks like a horse to keep on the right side of.
