STARSHIBA – (2.45 Salisbury, 1pt win – 11/2)
This is a tougher assignment for STARSHIBA, but it may pay to keep the faith instead of overthinking this race. He was narrowly beaten for us at Goodwood last time, but the winner has since gone on to win the Britannia at Royal Ascot in good fashion off a 5lbs higher mark, and the handicapper has taken a chance by leaving the selection on the same mark of 87.
The step back up to 1m looks a good move on the balance, and the wide draw shouldn’t be a concern with how this race is likely to pan out.

CHICHESTER – (3.30 Carlisle, 1pt win – 11/2)
CHICHESTER has been unfortunate the last twice in stronger races than this, and the drop back into a Class 4 for which he was a winner on his last attempt can see him get his head in front. The return to 1m should hold no fears at this course, usually seeing the front runners go off too hard and come back to the field.
The handicapper is willing him to win by leaving him on a mark of 85, especially after his unlucky passage in the Zetland Gold Cut at Redcar on his penultimate start. That form has worked out well, with the 5th and 7th both going in next time. This looks a very good opportunity.

BANDINELLI – (3.55 Salisbury, 2pts win – 4/1)
In an average race, handicap debutant BANDINELLI may prove the answer after being better than the bare result behind a useful type at Wolverhampton when attempting to give away a 7lb penalty.
He was forced wide for much of the three runner race when James Doyle wasn’t at his best but stuck to the task well and screamed potential improver. Today’s opening handicap mark for his first start on turf could be a lenient one.

BURIRAM – (4.30 Salisbury, 1pt win – 9/2
The combination of good ground and 1m6f looks to be the optimum conditions for BURIRAM, who was unlucky to bump into a rejuvenated, well-handicapped rival last time at Chester.
He was denied a clear run at a crucial part of the race but comfortably beat the remainder, and on that evidence, he has more to offer yet. He was given a 1lb rise in the weights which shouldn’t be enough to stop him under these conditions.

BONNEVAL – (7.40 Kempton, 1pt win – 3/1)
BONNEVAL was a big eye-catcher at Kempton on handicap debut off a 2lb lower mark when doing best of those from the rear and a wide draw in stall 12. He eat-up the ground in the closing stages but came too late to be beaten a head, and it was notable the amount of money that came for him five minutes before the off.
That was a career-best, and after just four starts, he could have plenty more to offer yet, so he gets the vote over Flaming Spear.
