Dobryn – (1.30 Ludlow, 2pts win – 2/1)
On first glance DOBRYN looks harshly treated by the handicapper for his debut in this sphere but his run here at Ludlow last time was worth upgrading due to some sloppy mistakes early on and he recorded an excellent time figure when chasing home a useful type suggest he is going the right way. He is very lightly raced under rules and is open to significant improvement now tackling handicaps and Jordon Nailor’s 3lbs claim could prove significant and is a confident selection.

Barbados Blue – (2.30 Ludlow, 1pt win – 7/4)
I was unhappy with the ride given to BARBADOS BLUE at Doncaster when she should have won and won well but got caught for a turn of foot after travelling to the final flight on the bridle. The presence on Nico De Boinville in the saddle now suggests that she is ready to strike and this 5lb higher mark shouldn’t be beyond her in this company and the step back up to 2m5f for which she was an impressive winner in a good time figure at Kempton, looks a big positive.

Imperial Knight – (3.20 Southwell, 1pt each-way – 8/1)
It was a big step forward for the frustrating to back IMPRERIAL KNIGHT last time at Newbury in first time cheek-pieces when fifth of thirteen and he should prove tough to beat if improving on that latest form today. He was held up in a slowly run race for the first 2m and pulled hard early on but the final circuit recorded an excellent time figure as the leaders quickened from the front. His effort can be upgraded given he did second best of those ridden quietly (held up) in a race that favoured prominent runners and with the cheek-pieces retained there’s a good chance he can continue his progression in this weaker contest.

Shouldering – (7.15 Kempton, 1pt win – 6/4)
A good Novice race but preference is for SHOULDERING who offered plenty to work on at Haydock on racecourse debut last July in a highly competitive Novice race that has worked out extremely well. She improved to get off the mark at Sandown over 7f to run out a ready winner of and take the scalp of now 82 and 87 rated horses. David Menuisier has made a good start to the season with a few of his horses looking unlucky in running and he has a good record with horses returning from a break. The booking of Jamie Spencer catches the eye so a chance is taken in a competitive event.
