CREDENCE STAR (1.05 Doncaster, 1pt win 10/11)
CREDENCE STAR very much caught the eye on debut when third here at Doncaster and shaped as though he would improve significantly for the experience. That race is one that I am keen to follow this season and the drop back to 6f for this well-bred colt looks a good move after being keen in the early part of the race over 7f last time.
He ran extremely green under pressure but the penny seemed to drop as he was tiring late on but with that run now under his belt he can improve here and take the scalp of some inexperienced rivals.

TANASOQ (1.40 Doncaster, 1pt win 6/1)
TANASOQ ran a blinder at Musselburgh on his first start for Jim Goldie despite having to come from well off the pace in a race that always favours those ridden prominently. He was disadvantaged by his low draw and ran on the wrong side of the track so there is a good chance that he was better than the bare result there and a further 1lb drop in the weights to a career-low handicap mark of 68 will only aid his cause.
The handicapper has been extremely quick to relent over the winter and has dropped him 10lbs after four starts on the AW for which he is now 0-7. His last run on good ground (6 starts ago) came here at Doncaster when beaten just 2 1/4 lengths off a 16lbs higher mark so he is worth chancing in this weak event.

RIFLEMAN (1.50 Sandown, 1pt win 4/1)
A good race for the grade but RIFLEMAN looks like a horse to keep on side for powerful connections after impressing in two of his three starts as a two-year-old and this opening handicap mark on the balance of that form looks very lenient.
He caught the eye on debut at Newbury in a good novice race when given an easy time from the rear of the field and then chased home the useful Noble Dynasty at Kempton before scoring on his final start at the same venue in November. A mark of 87 based on his time figure on that final performance looks well within reach so he is worth siding with on seasonal return from a good draw.

ETONIAN (3.35 Sandown, 1pt win 15/2)
This is a hot race but it may pay to take a chance on ETONIAN who was extremely impressive in two starts at this venue last term over 7f but looked outpaced over the same trip on soft ground at the top level in the Dewhurst Stakes.
That couldn’t have been his true running but the step up in trip could be the making of him given the ease in which he travels through his races and although this race will likely tell connections which route to take throughout the season his RPR of 108 on his penultimate start suggests he is overpriced. His form lines tie in very tightly with those towards the top of the market and he has plenty of scope for improvement this term along with Trawlerman who is feared most.

FAMOSO (5.05 Chepstow, 2.5pt win 11/8)
FAMOSO was unlucky for this column at a big price at Wincanton last time but he did remarkably well for one held up off a slow pace at that particular venue and stayed on powerfully through the line. The step-up in trip will no doubt be on the cards at some point but this stamina testing track over this 2m trip should suit him very well and he will be able to confirm form with, Hope You Do, under natural progression.
He still raced green under pressure in the closing stages and has taken a while to come to hand but now looks to be the time to catch him so he gets a confident vote.
