IN REM looks the part and he may be able to defy a 13lb rise from the handicapper here with connections placing him well. He was powerful at the finish at Wincanton and even made me think Christ, that’s well handicapped! Given his big stature, it’s highly likely that the good ground has been a hindrance rather than a help, and today’s heavy ground will see him to even better effect. He is completely unexposed and is firmly on the upgrade, so he is well worth siding with to keep on improving.

DORKING BOY – (2.05 Uttoxeter, 2pt win – 7/2)
The last NAP of 2021 is an old friend in DORKING BOY who scored for this column back in January and connections look to have found another good opportunity on the back of an excellent run at Ascot last time, in a hot contest over a trip that stretched his stamina. The drop back in distance today and the return to soft ground are both positives for his chances. He now sits just 1lb above his victory two starts ago at Ayr when dropped into a class 4 contest. Today he remains in a class 3, but it’s a weak one, and the interesting angle is with the hood. The hood was removed at Ascot, but is back on today. In 2019 at Ascot, connections removed the hood and applied it for his next start at Taunton, resulting in a victory. In November last year, connections did the same and applied it for his next run at Doncaster (re-the tip), and he won. Today they apply the hood back on after running without it at Ascot last time. He is more than capable on a going day recording RPRs in the 130’s, something no other horse has achieved in this field other than the rank outsider, who needs good ground.
