THE FLYING SOFA caught the eye on his belated seasonal return in a stronger race than this, and he ran as though he was in desperate need of it. This now represents a drop back into class 4 company off a two pounds lower handicap mark, and it’s the first time over fences he has been in this grade since scoring at Fakenham in Jan of 2020. On his final start of the season last term, he chased home the useful Pistol Whipped and went down fighting. That horse was a subsequent winner and went within a nose of scoring off a handicap mark of 150 (13lbs higher), so off the same mark, our lad should have every chance now race fit.

TOKAY DOKEY (3.20 Carlisle, 1pt win, SP)
TOKAY DOKEY will probably have a small drift in the market, so take SP odds, but he is a rapidly improving horse, and this handicap mark of 131 doesn’t look high enough to halt his progress. He bolted up at Market Rasen when tipped in this column in a good time figure, and he faces mainly exposed rivals today with the main danger returning from a mammoth absence and making his chase debut. He hasn’t beaten a great deal over fences, but his hurdle form suggests he is one to keep on side for now off this handicap mark. Mackenberg is a little over-priced at the time of writing and feared the most, and I suspect market support for this one.
