RITSON (2,55 Wetherby, 1pt win, 15/8)
This could prove to be a good opportunity for RITSON to get off the mark over hurdles after running with credit behind an unexposed sort at Carlisle, who has some useful Point to Point form. He has mixed it in stronger races than this and has emerged with credit, and although he has a little to find at the weights with those at the top of the market, he is very consistent. The ground is a bit of a question mark for a few of these, but he seemed to relish conditions at Carlisle, which recorded a good time figure for the grade.

ALBERT’S BACK (3.30 Wetherby, 1pt win, 9/2)
There’s a real concern about the ground for many of these, and the absence of 1000 days for the Skelton runner and 310 for Jante Law will make this tough for them. ALBERT’S BACK took a step in the right direction at Kelso when running on at the death, and that was a hint he was ready to return to form. He is on a workable mark of 127, and this looks a weak enough class 3 now returned to his favoured Wetherby (3-5) where he has recorded some excellent time figures in the past. He is a very useful horse on his day, and Brian Hughes back in the saddle is a positive move by connections. Mcgowan’s Pass should theoretically get closer than the eight-length defeat at Haydock in 2020, now better off at the weights, while Minella Charmer can’t be written off either. Still, the selection looks a good bet at the morning odds today.

PROTECTED GUEST (8.00 Wolverhampton, 1pt win, 12/1)
The dice are rolled with PROTECTED GUEST, who is frustrating to back at the best of times, but figures on a workable handicap mark and is in excellent form at present. I want to take on this favourite who surely has a stiff task off this mark of 104 and looks awful value. Protected Guest has been there and done it and looks a spot of value after an unlucky third to Celtic Art at Lingfield last time, and providing he gets a good pace to aim at and is not too far off the pace at the home bend; he will be coming home strongly. Luke Morris seems to get on very well with this horse, and he is on a steep upward curve at present.
