GOBI SUNSET (2.50 Haydock, 1pt win 9/1)
GOBI SUNSET could get an easy time on the front end here with a lack of pace options available and that will make him dangerous returned to turf. He has the services of a fully-fledged professional jockey now for the first time in four starts and on the balance of his last two runs, he looks ahead of the handicapper off this mark of 85.
On a couple of occasions, the claiming jockeys have got their fractions wrong but Joe Fanning is a master at front running so providing he gets the splits correctly he can exploit the lack of race fitness in many of his rivals turned out quickly.

TEMPLE BRUER (4.10 Doncaster, 2pt win 13/2)
TEMPLE BRUER had some fine form last season as a two-year-old including when bumping into two potentially useful horses on two separate occasions and both of those went on to be beaten just 1 3/4 and 2 3/4 lengths in the same race by Alcohol Free.
His final run of the season on heavy ground over 7f can be forgiven at Newmarket and this looks a very good opportunity now dropped back into a Class 5 event on seasonal return. His handicap mark of 70 looks well within reach on that evidence so providing he is fully wound up for this he should take some stopping here.

5.00 Ripon – La Trinidad
LA TRINIDAD is a horse I am keen to keep on the right side of going forward after some excellent efforts last term in top-class handicaps and his final start last season can be easily excused (over 1m2f on soft ground). His run before that at Doncaster when beaten just 3 1/2 lengths after running too free by Matthew Flinders looks a strong piece of form and so does his two York runs behind Brunch when beaten 2 lengths and 1 length over today’s 1m trip.
He is only 2lb higher today for the latter run and won in good style the first time out last season and there looks to be plenty of pace on here and the price has dictated that he is favoured over Overwrite.

THIBAULT (5.25 Sandown, 0.5pt e/w 20/1)
It may pay to take a chance on THIBAULT who has had a fine season and on the time figures is still progressing and inclusive of Nathan Brennan’s 7lb claim he is only 5lb above his last winning mark at Hereford in a race that has worked out extremely well.
His penultimate start at Ascot when second at 80/1 looks a good piece of form in the context of this race and his latest run at Uttoxeter when fourth to the useful Wilde About Oscar recorded a career-best time figure. He is effectively 7lbs lower than that 4 length defeat and is taking on similar opposition and is himself unexposed despite being an 8yo.

THIBAAN (5.55 Doncaster, 1pt win 4/1)
The sheer lack of pace in this race means that THIBAAN, who has made the running previously, will likely get a soft time of things on the front end and although he lacks race fitness he can build on the promise he offered last season.
This handicap mark of 87 shouldn’t be beyond him on the balance of his form and there is a good chance that a breathing operation will see him finish out his races in a stronger fashion. He is worth chancing in a field that is full of mainly hold up horses and the return to the scene of his sole victory is a big positive.

RED POPPY (7.30 Doncaster, 1pt win 5/1)
RED POPPY would have undoubtedly finished closer to the winner here at Doncaster last time if not for being denied a clear run and then shuffled back through the pack so the fact she has only been beaten three lengths by Tahitian Prince in a race that has worked out extremely well, suggests she has something in hand off of this same handicap mark. She is unexposed on turf and is 6lbs better off with Angel Of The Glen for a 1 1/4 length defeat on their meeting in a Thirsk Maiden in which the selection was sent off the favourite and finished under tender handling. Gale Force Maya is 15lbs better off with the same horse so is feared over the returning Arabic Charm who has been somewhat of a disappointment.
