KINCARDINE – (1.55 Newbury, 1pt win, (Take SP))
KINCARDINE wasn’t disgraced when pulled up at Ascot, having gone very hard on the front end over 2m5f in a race that is littered with high 120’s to low 130’s horses, and he could only do what he did behind Stage Star here on his penultimate start.
This is a poor race with very few running to a mark above 105, and a repeat of his effort here behind the above mentioned would surely be enough to surfice. The drop back in trip on soft ground should prove ideal given he stays a bit further than this, and his fluent hurdling should hold him in good stead. Super Duper Sam didn’t take a step forward at Wincanton in a poor race, so he looks worth taking on.

LADY KK – (2.30 Newbury, 1pt win, 9/1)
LADY KK returns after a short break and a wind operation and returns to hurdles after a fair spell over fences. Still, the strong pace on offer in this contest should bring her stamina into play, and she sits on a workable handicap mark of 115 judged on the balance of her form.
She is relatively unexposed over 3m, and her only attempt over hurdles at Taunton against the boys reads well – despite her shaping in need of a stiffer test on that occasion. Today’s soft ground will play to her strengths, and she looks like an out and out stayer.

ANOTHER CRICK – (3.40 Newbury, 1pt win, (Take SP))
ANOTHER CRICK was back in the grove at Wincanton last time and finished with a good deal in hand over another progressive rival, and he remains well-handicapped over fences and relatively unexposed (3-8).
He boasts a course win here at Newbury on his penultimate visit and is one of the few that arrive on an upward curve. Today’s softer surface should play to his strengths, turning this into a stamina test (stays further), and there is a lot to like about his chances. Katpoli is feared the most.

STORM ARISING – (4.15 Newbury, 1pt win, 6/1)
STORM ARISING made a highly encouraging debut over fences at Chepstow when poorly positioned to attack the front two pacesetters who dictated throughout but emerged with plenty of credit and was far better than the beaten distance suggests.
The handicapper has dropped him five pounds for that effort. Yet, the winner has some extremely strong form to his name, having previously touched off the useful Gericault Roque and then was only beaten three lengths by Bravemansgame and is 8lbs higher (still well-handicapped).
The runner-up bolted up at Cheltenham next time by 11 lengths and is raced 7lbs higher, and the selection was well clear of the remainder. He is well treated on his hurdle form, and his Sandown return run is easily forgiven, shaping as though he would improve for fitness, as is his 14th in the Pertemps Final off an 8lbs higher mark. He looks one to keep on side here with conditions right up his street.
