THIBAULT. – (1.10 Sandown, 2pts win – 13/2)
Today’s favourite may have a bit in hand with the presence of a ten-pound claimer after scoring at Haydock last time, but THIBAULT looks a favourable price on this big drop in grade. He ran well here when doing best of those from off the pace in a 0-150 Listed contest when finishing third, and today’s slower ground should help his cause.
This is his first attempt over hurdles outside of class 3 company since scoring on heavy ground at Hereford in 2020 off a handicap mark of 116. His claimer means he is effectively off 117 today (3lbs lower than his last effort here), and he has been knocking on the door in deeper contest’s than this and can deservingly get off the mark today.

MR FRED ROGERS. – (2.30 Clonmel , 1pt win – 11/8)
MR FRED ROGERS is my idea of the Albert Bartlett winner at this stage, and he should be winning this contest and confirming form with his main danger and De Bromhead’s likely Bartlett contender Shantreusse.
The ground is a slight question mark, but he is firmly on the upgrade. He was never put into the race at Navan behind his stablemate Ginto but finished the race strongly, and he almost certainly has improved for the step up to 3m. He looks like a progressive horse with stacks to come, and his form ties in with some useful horses at the head of the Albert Bartlett market that makes him a strong fancy for this contest.

MUSICAL SLAVE. – (4.05 Sandown, 1pt win – 4/1)
MUSICAL SLAVE was an unlucky loser for us at Exeter last time, but one thing to note was his much-improved jumping display. In the hope that trend continues here, he should have no issues with the Sandown track given the stern jumping test that Exeter provides. With that said, his latest form has worked out well.
The runner-up has confirmed the form by scoring at the same venue next time in good style, and this looks like a similarly good opportunity. He remains well handicapped up just two pounds, and he is entitled to improve on that effort which came after wind surgery and a 255 daybreak.
This is only his second start in open handicap company at class three-level, and he is unexposed to an extent at three miles if forgiving his Listed run iff 137, his festival Kim Muir runs off 135 and his trip to Punchestown. If he builds on his latest effort, he should give the favourite Dr Kananga, who is 12lbs higher and up in grade, something to think about.
