IMPHAL – (1.45 Wincanton, 2pts win – 2/1) (NAP)
Plenty of these arrive with questions to answer, but IMPHAL, who was unlucky for this column at Ascot when bumping into one and doing extremely well after being hampered and nearly forced out of the race, is one to view positively.
His effort deserved a huge upgrade at Ascot, and although this track can play to the strengths of front runners, there are very few better handicapped than him off this two pounds higher mark. He can get back to winning ways under bottom weight and looks like a winner in waiting off this mark. If my confidence was higher, he would be a sizeable punt.
St Barts is feared back over hurdles, but Lord Of Kerak needs to prove he can stay this new trip, so it’s Jepeck for tri-cast purposes.

ONEUPMANSHIP – (2.15 Wincanton, 1pt win – 3/1)
ONEUPMANSHIP made a very promising debut over fences at Ffos Las and providing he is none the worse for his fall when still having every chance off this mark. He looks the way to go here.
He returns to Wincanton, where he ran a scorcher this time last year over hurdles, so the track should pose no issue, and he is open to plenty of improvement in this sphere. He was brought to be a chaser by the talented Jack Barber, and it would be disappointing should he not be able to kick on now over fences.

MIDNIGHT MIDGE – (2.45 Wincanton, 0.5pt each-way – 14/1 bet365)
A chance is taken with MIDNIGHT MIDGE, who looks to have been underestimated in the market back over hurdles. His prominent running style should suit in a race where there is little pace on paper, and it was only his jumping that has let him down this season, particularly at this venue.
He is twice a winner over hurdles at Wincanton, and he has been in better form than his beaten distances suggest. The revert to this discipline could see him hard to catch off this workable mark of 119 – just two pounds higher than his course and distance success in 2019.

TERRESITA – (3.00 Ludlow, 1.5pts win – 3/1) (NB)
TERRESITA offered plenty to work on at Fakenham on handicap debut in a race that couldn’t have worked out better. The runner-up has since scored twice in good style and the time figure was very good for the grade also.
That was just her third start on a racecourse and first upped in distance to 3m, so there’s a good chance she has plenty more to offer. This is a step up in grade, but she looks well-handicapped even after an 8lbs rise and is one of the few on a steep upward curve. She ticks plenty of boxes and should relish conditions in a race where few will handle it, so she is one to view positively here.
