Horse Racing Tips - Daryl Carter's Best Bets on Tuesday, March 8th

Daryl Carter has four selections on Tuesday, racing at Newcastle and Sandown. Check out his tips below, alongside an exclusive SBK offer that provides money back in cash up to £20.

WARRIORS STORY (2.05 Newcastle, 1pt e/w, 9/1)

It’s hard to be confident at this level, but I would be shocked if WARRIORS STORY wasn’t better than this opening handicap mark of 84 – 79, inclusive of jockey Bruce Lynn’s claim. He has some strong bumper form to his name, notably when beaten eight lengths by Karl Philippe (130) at Carlisle when with former trainer Keith Dalgleish. In second that day was the 117 rated Onward Route. The fourth, beaten 19 lengths, is rated 93. In his debut bumper run, he was beaten six lengths by Peking Rose rated 131, and No Risk Des Flos was in third rated 130. He failed to finish out his races during that season and went to Nick Alexander.

He has had three runs over hurdles when held up at the rear of the field and on all three occasions has caught the eye making swift headway in competitive events won by 114 rated (127 in second), recent Kelso winner rated 118 (due to go up) Famous Bridge, 130 rated High Stakes in second and his latest run in December when beaten 40 lengths but was much better than the bare result. Every single run has screamed he needed a wind operation, and he arrives here on handicap debut after a 69-day break and a wind operation. He has recorded RPRS (if using his rating of 79 with claimer weight) 2lbs, 13lbs, 17lbs and 34lbs higher than his current mark in four of his six starts. He is a brother to the smart Warriors Tale, and he is bred to be far better than this.

STORM RISING – (2.20 Sandown, 1pt win – 50/1 AND 1pt W/O Global Agreement and Great Ocean 10/1

This is punty, and it’s not a race I would usually get involved with, but given the lack of experience from these jockeys, it might be worth taking a chance on STORM RISING. This horse returns to hurdles today after a 0-5 record over fences and needs forgiving two lesser efforts last time. Still back over hurdles for the first time since scoring at Fakenham by six lengths for Dr Richard Newland when rated 126 (straight forward task), he is now down to a mark of 111, and the headgear goes back on for the first time for this yard.

He has scored in first-time cheek-pieces and first-time blinkers. He has scored when the headgear has also been switched, and on his last visit to Sandown he was 4th in the Imperial Cup in 2019 off a mark of 135. He finds plenty for hand and heels riding, and he just looks wildly over-priced

PLANNED PARADISE (3.50 Newcastle, 1pt win, 10/3)

There’s very little if any pace on in this race, and it could be a good opportunity for PLANNED PARADISE to get back to winning ways after being narrowly denied by a well-handicapped rival at Wincanton last time. The return to a sounder surface is certainly in his favour, and his latest run at Wincanton has seen the winner go in again and the third, who was six lengths adrift, also score. A 5lb rise shouldn’t be enough to stop him going in here. Given his unexposed profile, he could have plenty more to come. Well Planted has been firmly on the radar and could prove well-handicapped on this handicap debut, so it is worth a saver after he was given a soft ride last time out.

KAMAXOS (4.05 Sandown, 1pt win, 5/1)

KAMAXOS did remarkably well at Newbury at the head of affairs in a strongly run race from six pounds out of the handicap, with only the winner Dashel Drasher doing better than him with the third, fourth and fifth all held up at the rear of the field. He ran well on his penultimate start at this venue, only to be nailed by an extremely well-handicapped rival. Git Maker could be that horse this time around, but Ned Fox’s claim comes into play here, making him look very fairly treated. He has been knocking on the door, and this one could just open for him. Obviously, Fifty Ball could bounce back to his best, and Benson would be feared if putting it all together, but both arrive with something to prove, so it’s the Snowden horse that is feared the most.
