A DISTANT PLACE – (3.00 Ludlow – 1pt win – 7/2)
A DISTANT PLACE has plenty of mileage in his handicap mark judged on his point to point form and that of his Novice Hurdle form where he was very much learning his job. He made an encouraging seasonal return at Hereford – a track far too sharp for him – over 2m4f, and the way he finished off that race suggested there was plenty more to come.
He drops in trip today, which could be a cause for concern, but the softer ground should emphasize stamina, and that’s not a forte of main market rival Black Poppy, and there is form that ties the pair in together. Those are the two to focus on in this event with the stamina of the selection, hopefully, coming out on top.

CHIRICO VALLIS – (3.25 Doncaster – 1pt win – 5/2)
CHIRICO VALLIS takes his first steps into Veterans’ Handicap Company, and he arrives here in good heart and finds himself in a race where he could dominate from the front end. He was unable to get the lead at Warwick last time when running a grand race to finish third over a trip too far.
Today’s drop back to three miles is a positive, and the handicapper has left him on a workable mark. He is unexposed over 3m, and all of his career wins over fences have come when he has been able to dominate.
Dingo Dollar and Black Op may try and grab the lead early on, but the selections more fluent jumping will help him gain an early advantage. Belami Des Picton’s had a tough race ten days ago and is not sure to reproduce that effort, and there is more to come from our lad.

HERONORD – (4.45 Ludlow – 1pt win – 7/2)
HERONORD was a losing selection for this column last time, but on reflection, he was probably flying too high in a Class 4 0-120. Today he returns to Ludlow but takes a big drop in grade into a Class 5 0-105, and today’s softer surface over this trip may just see him to better effect (slowing the pace of the race down).
He still remains of interest given how well he has shaped in better races than today’s, and the good amount of pace on in the race could set it up for a closing finish. He was tenderly handled last time, and Adam Wedge used the race to teach him how to jump and build his confidence. In the hope that has worked, the return to this track is likely by design. He is worth chancing in a poor race.
