HERONARD – (1.30 Ludlow – 1pt win – 11/4)
This Ludlow track will test the jumping of HERONARD, but he looks well ahead of the handicapper off of this mark of 108 on the limited evidence we have of him. Connections have wasted no time in getting him over fences, and he was travelling very strongly on chase debut when coming down at Taunton back in November in a race that has worked out well for the grade.
He also looked to have victory in his hands before a lousy blunder at Market Rasen three out, and the way he recovered on that occasion suggests he has a sizeable engine. He won’t be long in getting off the mark over fences and looks like the best-handicapped horse in the race, so a chance is taken at favourable odds that he can finally put it all together.
Galop De Chasse is similarly unexposed and also has jumping frailties, and this sharp 2m test on a sound surface may just find him out for speed. Cenotice was fortunate to hang on at Newcastle from some exposed rivals and doesn’t look as though he is improving.

ISOLATE – (2.30 Ludlow – 1pt win – 5/1)
There are frailties in many of these in the jumping department. Favourite Gortroe Joe can jump to his right but arrives in career-best form and won this race in 2019 off 11lbs lower, but this contest usually goes to the younger horse, and although he has the best form in the race, he has never won off a mark this high.
The one with the most potential in the field is the six-year-old ISOLATE. The selection can jump to the left, which is a concern should he line up on the inside of today’s favourite (inside to stop him losing ground as they did at Market Rasen) where they could clash, but he finished off his race strongly behind a well-handicapped unexposed rival on his latest start, despite an almost race-ending blunder at the third, and that was a step in the right direction after he has failed to build on his Kempton romp earlier in the season.
He doesn’t have the strongest form in the book, granted, but he powered home from off the pace here last time, and he is worth a chance to build on that effort. Chambard jumps poorly under pressure, and these Ludlow fences in the home straight could give him issues. While Qui De Neuf will prove popular, he also needs a career-best.

AGGY WITH IT – 3.00 Ludlow – 1pt win – 15/2)
It could pay to forgive AGGY WITH IT her reappearance run given her upwardly mobile profile and the handicapper dropping her five pounds for that run on very soft ground in a deep 0-140 contest is a bonus returned to mares only company.
Outside of the favourite, she looks the one on a very workable handicap mark, and she is entitled to improve for that outing – her first for 311 days. She was travelling well off a slow pace from the rear of the field when last seen in March and was yet to be asked a question in a Novice Hurdle won by Nicky Henderson’s Fantastic Lady (127), who has since won a handicap chase easily off a mark of 120 – now 129. Prior to that, she shaped well in a good mares contest at Cheltenham but found her run blocked, and she could never get going.
With this just her second start in a handicap today, she could have more to offer on the balance of her form, and her right-handed record over than the latest blip reads 1121. The second came at Market Rasen splitting Perfect Myth rated 129 and Mrs Hyde 129 over 2m, and she has looked in need of a stiffer test, so in the hope that today’s 2m5f suits her well, she gets the vote.
