It’s day one of Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday afternoon and our man Steve Chambers has his best bets for the action on the south coast. Check out his selections for a cracking day’s racing, which includes the Goodwood Cup and Lennox Stakes, here…
1:50pm Goodwood – Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap
Recent John Smith’s Cup winner Enfjaar is a warm order for the opening contest at 1:50pm and while he will have to deal with another rise in the handicap he looks the form choice and looks tough to beat in what is an opening contest that could be devoid of significant strength in depth.
However, he’s pretty short in the betting, so it could be worth looking elsewhere and the Hughie Morrison-trained STAY WELL could offer some decent each-way value. Last seen finishing second off a mark of 90 at Chelmsford, the six-year-old lines up off the same mark here and a return to the turf should pose no problems at all. Sitting at the bottom of the weights for this event he’s one that could make the most of a light weight and make the frame at the very least.

Glorious Goodwood Day 1 Trends – Key Pointers for Opening Day Success
Glorious Goodwood gets underway in just one week’s time, and as ever with the big meetings, Dave Young looks into the trends that could point you towards some early punting success. Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap (Class 2) – 1m2f Will be aged 4 or 5, did NOT win last time out but likely ran well,…

2:25pm Goodwood – HKJC World Pool Vintage Stakes
We have a fascinating Vintage Stakes at 2:25pm as some hugely exciting juveniles line up for the Group 2 event and Aidan O’Brien’s The Parthenon and Charlie Appleby’s Aomori City are battling it out for favouritism. The former could potentially benefit from a step up in trip, while the latter could struggle to see out the seven furlongs, so take the pair on.
The outsider of the entire field is Karl Burke’s TIGER MASK, who recorded a first victory at the third time of asking in an Ascot novice stakes, but the manner in which he claimed victory in that event suggested more could be in the locker. This is a gargantuan step up in class, but the Havana Grey colt is entitled to improve again and if eight remain in the event then the top three certainly looks in his grasp.

3:00pm Goodwood – HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes
Dual winner of this event Kinross will attempt to land the hat-trick in the Lennox Stakes at 3:00pm and the Ralph Beckett-trained raider certainly warrants respect. But, the seven-year-old certainly appears to have regressed in recent times, so it could be worth siding with a younger, improving performer and Ed Walker’s Royal Ascot winner ENGLISH OAK can step out of the handicap sphere and land Group success.
A stunning three-length winner of the Buckingham Palace Stakes last month, Walker’s four-year-old shaped every bit like a Pattern performer and the Wootton Bassett colt could prove to be a top class seven furlong horse by the end of the season and can land this prize. He showed a fine turn of foot that day in the Buckingham Palace and if he can continue on an upward curve then he can make it three wins on the bounce.
