3.55 Catterick – LANGHOLM (1pt win 4/1 bet365)
The return to turf looks like it has come at the perfect time for Michael Dods’ LANGHOLM. He was given a first taste of the all-weather in November, running significantly below par on all three occasions at Chelmsford, Newcastle and Southwell. However, his form after a break in the last three seasons reads 432, while a succession of starts here in August and September of last year saw finishes of 23323. Though this front-runner is without a win in almost two years, his mark of 54 is a complete gift on the turf form he showed at this venue and a good break from the stalls should see him go close.
5.00 Catterick – FORESEEABLE FUTURE (0.5pt e/w 15/2 bet365)
The ten runners in this field are almost unanimously joined by their inability to show their true form after a significant break from the track. However, one to chance that he will do may be FORESEEABLE FUTURE, who has never met his ideal conditions first time out after a winter off. On three occasions, he has returned on the all-weather, on which he has never run, and on balance, his best efforts came over further than 5f towards the end of last season as his mark was rising. That suggests this 6f trip should be better for his seasonal debut than last term’s 5f start and he is now 4lb lower than when a close fourth under these conditions in a class 2 race at Nottingham last September.
