Juddmonte International Stakes Runners: Delacroix & Ombudsman Feature Among Six Declarations

Aidan O’Brien’s Delacroix and Charlie Appleby’s Ombudsman are two of the star names in the list of nine runners for the 2025 Juddmonte International Stakes, which is set to take place on day one of York’s Ebor Festival on Wednesday 20th August. The pair were last seen fighting it out for glory in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown Park, with the former coming out on top, and they are set for another epic clash on the Knavesmire in one of the stand-out 1m 2f Group 1 races on the calendar.

A disappointing ninth in the Derby at Epsom, Delacroix stormed back to winning ways in the Eclipse, where he got the better of Ombudsman, who lined up on the back of a fine win in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot a few weeks previous.

The pair are dominant in the betting, but the Juddmonte International has always been a race that has attracted the premier middle-distance performers from across Europe and the world and there should be some notable rivals in Wednesday’s enthralling contest.

Japanese superstar Danon Decile is a fascinating entry for Shogo Yasuda and that four-year-old was a fine winner of the Dubai Sheema Classic in Meydan, where he got the better of French star and recent King George winner Calandagan. He would add a real international flavour to the event and is certainly an unknown quantity on British shores.

Francis-Henri Graffard’s Daryz is unbeaten after four starts and was last seen winning a Group 2 in France, and will look to use that as a stepping stone and make it five from five in this contest, while Andrew Balding’s See The Fire, who romped to Middleton Stakes glory at the Dante Festival, will be looking to emulate that display on a return to York is also entered. Andre Fabre’s Birr Castle is another that adds quality, though is likely to make the pace in the race for fellow Godolphin runner Ombudsman.
