This Saturday’s racing focuses beyond the border. Kelso hosts its Morebattle Hurdle card, which has attracted some notable runners across eight races.
GG tipster Joe Napier has gone through the card to pick out three best bets for you to follow.
Kelso Racing Tips (Saturday 28 February)
Eight races take place on Kelso’s Saturday card. We have selections in races including the Grade 2 Premier Novices’ Hurdle and the Morebattle Hurdle.
1.10 Kelso – Torneo (2pt win – 5/2)
Jamie Snowden’s Torneo has an unfortunate record of close calls this season. However, his latest run was his best of the season and hinted that he should be winning soon. The six-year-old won twice last term, on good and soft ground, so he is not ground dependent. He has runner-up efforts at two big meetings this campaign too, firstly at Cheltenham, then most recently at Windsor. He was beaten just a head by the well-treated and in-form Highlands Legacy. A 4lb rise here pushes him closer to the handicapper’s grasp. This still looks a winnable opportunity though with his yard enjoying a sensational season.
2.15 Kelso – The Blue Room (1pt win – 8/1)
It is worth taking a chance on The Blue Room in this Grade 2. A son of Order Of St George, he is already a runner-up at this level. He chased home Cheltenham favourite No Drama This End that day, having won on debut at Chepstow. Already a bumper winner and point-to-point second, he boasted an enviable profile, only to blot his copybook at Prestbury Park last time out. However, that run, on deteriorating ground in the gloom, is worth forgiving based on previous efforts. He made a bad hurdling error early and could easily have plenty to offer. There is no horse of No Drama This End’s quality in this contest.
2.55 Kelso – Jet To Vegas (1pt e/w – 10/1)
Last year’s Premier Novice Hurdle winner Jet To Vegas can return to this venue with another victory. The selection was an impressive 16/1 winner that day despite jumping to the right. However, the open nature of the track was clearly something he relished and he subsequently ran very respectably in a Grade 1 at Aintree behind Salvator Mundi. This season has not worked out as planned over fences. However, his yard have been out of form for much of this campaign until recently. With results turning for Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore and back over hurdles, Jet To Vegas could be on a tempting mark of 135. Wind surgery since his last run may also be of benefit.
