Kelso Racing Tips & Predictions – Thursday 2nd April 2026
We’ve got five races on the Kelso card today and these Kelso racing tips lean hard on the numbers: ratings, topspeed, recent form and who actually does the business round here. We don’t have the going or distances listed in the racecards provided, so this preview is built off the reliable stuff we do have — class levels, weights, performance figures and market shape.
Kelso is a track where specialists can be worth their weight in gold, and our data analysis flags a proper headline act: Dedicated Hero has run here 4 times for 3 wins and a 100% place rate. That’s not a small edge — it’s a sledgehammer. Elsewhere, Dollar Collar and Similar Story both hit a 66.67% place rate at the venue, while Raceview Road has placed in 3 of 4 at Kelso. Among the humans, Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero stand out with a 31.03% win rate here, and jockeys like Jack Power (5 wins from 21) and Derek Fox (41 wins from 215) are never background noise at this place.

Read it straight: tiny samples can flatter (the two 100% lines are just two picks), but among the names with substance, The Score and Glendale have genuinely solid records at the track. Worth keeping in mind when they land on the same horse as the data.
14:40 – Every Race Live On Racing TV Novices’ Hurdle (GBB Race)
Race Details: Distance | Class 4 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps
This is an 11-runner novice hurdle and, honestly, it’s not short of moving parts. You’ve got a proper market leader in Smoke Trail with figures that scream “reliable” (121 rating, 107 topspeed), but there’s also an interesting quartet just behind him: Mr Mojo Risin is basically on the same ratings plane (120/106), Word For Word is the unknown improver off a single win, and Nobotheratall comes here on a hat-trick sequence (331) even if the raw numbers aren’t provided. Then it gets messy: several look booked for minor roles and a couple are frankly priced like they’ve got no chance — which is usually the right way round in novice hurdles at this level. For punting purposes, I’m siding with the proven engine and taking a value swing for the place side.
Top selections
WIN – Smoke Trail (Derek Fox / Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore) | Form: 1334 | Rating: 121 | Draw: — | Weight: 164
Smoke Trail rates the clear pick on what we can actually measure. A 121 rating and 107 topspeed is proper substance for a Class 4 novice hurdle, and the market has latched on accordingly. You can still get 5/2 with Betfair which is a lot fairer than the chunky odds-on style quotes you sometimes see in races like this. Derek Fox is a big positive at Kelso too (our reputable data sources have him at 19.07% wins here across a huge sample), and that matters when you want a smooth, no-drama round. Hard to oppose.
EACH-WAY – Changemyluck (Sean Quinlan / Stuart Coltherd) | Form: 88832 | Rating: 120 | Draw: — | Weight: 150
This is the price play. Changemyluck looks an honest sort who’s finally started to remember what competing feels like — that “2” and “3” at the tail of 88832 suggests he’s landing blows again, and he’s running off a serious-looking 120 rating (same bracket as Mr Mojo Risin). The topspeed of 74 is nowhere near the principals, so you’re banking on the handicap/race set-up and continued improvement, but 11/2 at bet365 is workable each-way in an 11-runner race with 3 places (1/5). Sean Quinlan is a steady pair of hands for this kind of assignment.
Danger: Word For Word is 1-from-1 and sits on a 115 rating; if he’s better than that, he can blow this up at 7/2.

Betting strategy
Keep it simple: Smoke Trail as the win bet because the rating/topspeed combo is strongest and Derek Fox is a Kelso pro. If you want an each-way angle in a biggish field, Changemyluck at 11/2 looks a fair price for a horse with a 120 rating and recent signs of life. Word For Word is the improver danger if he backs up that debut win.

15:10 – Racing TV Club Day Mares’ Handicap Hurdle
Race Details: Distance | Class 5 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps
Nine runners, three places each-way, and a favourite who might well be the right one. Miss Carbo brings the most appealing recent line (225761) and sits joint-top on rating at 98. The market agrees: she’s best-priced 13/8, and she’s only 4, which can matter in these mares’ handicaps when the older brigade are a bit exposed. Vanilla Dancer has the best topspeed in the race at 92 and arrives off 63214, which reads like a horse who shows up most days. The value, though, might be Ebselysees — same rating as Miss Carbo (98) but offered at a wild 20/1 with Paddy Power. If she runs to the figure, she’s simply overpriced.
Top selections
WIN – Miss Carbo (Bradley Harris / Neil Mulholland) | Form: 225761 | Rating: 98 | Draw: — | Weight: 169
I’m not overcomplicating this: Miss Carbo looks the solid play. She’s got that recent win on the page, she’s right there at the top of the ratings (98), and the market has her as the one to beat. Bradley Harris is also a sneaky positive at Kelso in our data (3 rides, 1 winner), and while that’s not a massive sample, it’s a hint he’s comfortable round here. 13/8 with bet365 isn’t making you rich, but in a Class 5 handicap hurdle with plenty of inconsistent types, I’ll take the straightforward option.
EACH-WAY – Ebselysees (Nathan Moscrop / Susan Corbett) | Form: 36-P25 | Rating: 98 | Draw: — | Weight: 163
The price is the story. Ebselysees is rated 98 — exactly the same as the favourite — yet you can nick 20/1 with Paddy Power. That’s not a “small edge”; that’s the sort of discrepancy you’re supposed to attack. She’s also not some no-hoper: a recent 2 and 5 suggests she can get competitive, and her topspeed of 78 is perfectly respectable in this grade. Nathan Moscrop is riding plenty at Kelso too. Each-way with 3 places makes loads of sense.

Betting strategy
This is a classic “one solid, one price” race. Miss Carbo is the win play at 13/8 because she’s consistent and the ratings say she belongs at the top. The bet I actually like for bang-for-buck is Ebselysees each-way at 20/1 (3 places). If she runs to her rating, you’ll be collecting.

15:40 – Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap Chase
Race Details: Distance | Class 5 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps
Ten-runner handicap chase, and it’s the sort of race punters love because it looks competitive while still offering a couple of logical anchors. The one arriving in rude health is Nights In Venice (873421) — that’s a win last time and a consistent profile leading into it. Benefit Ben is top-ish in the market at 3/1 but comes with a recent F in the form (51560F), which is a big red flag in a chase. Divas Doyen is interesting off bottom weight (148) with a strong rating of 112 and a 92 topspeed, while Burgundy Man has been racking up places before getting his head in front (223331) and is a bigger price than I’d expect for that profile. I’m siding with the in-form winner and taking the value against the market on Burgundy Man.
Top selections
WIN – Nights In Venice (Sean Quinlan / Donald Whillans) | Form: 873421 | Rating: 110 | Draw: — | Weight: 155
Nights In Venice is the bet in here because he’s the one trending the right way. That sequence into a last-time win (873421) tells you the yard has him where they want him, and a 110 rating with 92 topspeed is plenty in a Class 5 chase. The market’s not asleep either, but 10/3 with bet365 is acceptable given some of these have questions attached (falls, pulled-ups, or just lack of spark). Sean Quinlan is ideal when you want a positive, uncomplicated ride. He holds strong claims.
EACH-WAY – Burgundy Man (Callum Bewley / R Mike Smith) | Form: 223331 | Rating: 105 | Draw: — | Weight: 157
This is my “you’ll thank me later” pick. Burgundy Man has been knocking loudly — five straight placed efforts before getting the win (223331). That’s the sort of profile you can trust for an each-way bet because the horse keeps turning up. He’s not thrown in on 105 and the 98 topspeed says he can operate at a proper clip for the grade. Yet you can get 9/1 with Paddy Power, which looks generous against rivals who come with more baggage. Callum Bewley is a fine operator in these northern handicaps.

I’d rather back the horse coming off a win than guess which of the flaky ones behaves: Nights In Venice win at 10/3 is fine. For the each-way piece, Burgundy Man at 9/1 looks mispriced given that ultra-consistent 223331 profile. Keep an eye on Divas Doyen as a danger off 148 if the leaders get racing too early.

16:15 – Let’s Get Ladies Day Ready Handicap Hurdle
Race Details: Distance | Class 4 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps
Eight runners, and it’s basically a heavyweight clash dressed up as a handicap hurdle. Guet Apens comes here off 31 with the best figures in the field: 126 rating and a huge 111 topspeed. The market has him favourite, and the tipsters have piled in like it’s last orders. But there’s a Kelso-shaped problem: Dedicated Hero is a three-time winner from four at this track with a 100% place rate — that’s not vibes, that’s hard evidence. Add 126 rating and you’ve got a race that could be decided by who handles the day better, rather than who’s “best” in a vacuum. The rest? Feach Amach is a lively contender (topspeed 107) and Atlantic Lad is consistent, but the top two dominate the argument.
Top selections
WIN – Dedicated Hero (Danny McMenamin / Sandy Thomson) | Form: 6782UP | Rating: 126 | Draw: — | Weight: 169
I’m going against the crowd because the track stats are too loud to ignore. Dedicated Hero is a Kelso specialist in the truest sense: 4 runs, 3 wins, 100% placed and over 26501 in prize money at this venue from our data analysis. That’s a horse who sees the fences, the bends, the vibe — and loves it. He’s joint-top on rating too at 126, so it’s not like you’re buying a romance story. 9/4 with bet365 is the best of the prices and it’s absolutely backable. Sandy Thomson’s Kelso record is solid as well (35 winners from 213).
EACH-WAY – Feach Amach (Ryan Mania / Adam Nicol) | Form: -31641 | Rating: 118 | Draw: — | Weight: 155
Feach Amach is the each-way safety net in a race where plenty will only talk about the top two. He’s in cracking nick (that win last time in -31641) and his 107 topspeed is joint-second best in the field. Importantly, he’s carrying 155, which gives him a nice chunk of weight back from the two 126-rated bruisers up top. Ryan Mania rides Kelso as well as anyone (our data has him at 62 winners from 381 here), and Adam Nicol’s stable has a 59.26% place rate at the track. At 5/1 with bet365, he’s a proper each-way bet in an eight-runner race with 3 places.

This is where I’m strongest on the card. Dedicated Hero is the win bet because Kelso form this extreme is priceless, and 9/4 is just big enough to play. If you want an each-way, Feach Amach at 5/1 is the sensible alternative with weight in his favour and a top-level jockey for the track in Ryan Mania. The obvious danger is Guet Apens, who is the best on raw topspeed.

16:46 – Join Racing TV Now Handicap Chase (GBB Race)
Race Details: Distance | Class 4 | Going | Prize Money | Jumps
Another eight-runner chase and the market says it’s a duel at the top, but I’m not buying that it’s only two. Always A Reason has a gorgeous form profile (121152) and the joint-best topspeed on offer at 109. My Lady Elektra also runs to 109 topspeed and comes in off a placed effort (47-342) with a lighter weight than the principals. Kahavari is the popular one with tipsters and is the top of the market at 10/3, but he’s lugging 170 and his form (U64252) suggests he finds one too good fairly often. I want the horse who reliably hits the frame and wins plenty: Always A Reason. For the each-way angle, My Lady Elektra looks overpriced against the top two.
Top selections
WIN – Always A Reason (Danny McMenamin / Rebecca Menzies) | Form: 121152 | Rating: 115 | Draw: — | Weight: 165
Always A Reason is the percentage call. He’s not flashy, he’s just good: 121152 is proper professional form and his 109 topspeed is joint-best in the field. I’m happy to back that consistency in a Class 4 handicap chase where plenty can throw in the odd stinker. The price is workable too — 7/2 with Betfair is the standout and looks a touch big given the profile. Danny McMenamin is a strong booking, and if this turns tactical, the horse who jumps and travels tends to win round Kelso. He’s fancied to go close and I’m calling him the one to beat.
EACH-WAY – My Lady Elektra (Sean Quinlan / N W Alexander) | Form: 47-342 | Rating: 116 | Draw: — | Weight: 154
If you’re playing each-way, you want a horse with the numbers to win but the price to forgive the risk. My Lady Elektra fits. She’s rated 116, she’s got 109 topspeed, and she carries just 154 — that’s a clear weight pull versus Kahavari (170) and Always A Reason (165). The stable is no mug either: N W Alexander is a fixture in this part of the world. Best of all, the market lets you in at 11/2 with bet365. With 3 places available in an eight-runner race, that’s a sound each-way swing.

I’m playing this straight: Always A Reason win at 7/2 (Betfair) because the form is rock-solid and the topspeed says he’s right there. Each-way, My Lady Elektra at 11/2 is attractive with that weight edge and joint-best topspeed. If you’re hunting a danger, Kahavari is consistent enough but has plenty on his back.

Summary & best bets
These Kelso racing tips are built around two big ideas: trust the track specialists, and don’t ignore pricing when the ratings are shouting at you. The standout on the whole card is Dedicated Hero — a 3-from-4 Kelso record with a 100% place rate is the sort of edge you usually only get when the market makes a mistake. Here, you’re still being offered 9/4, which is playable. For value, Ebselysees is the bet that jumps off the page: rated 98 (level with the favourite in her race) yet available at 20/1 with Paddy Power. That’s the kind of discrepancy you’re supposed to lean into over time.
NAP of the Day: Dedicated Hero (16:15) – WIN
Best Value Bet: Ebselysees (15:10) – EACH-WAY
Banker: Smoke Trail (14:40) – WIN
Each-Way Special: Burgundy Man (15:40) – EACH-WAY
If you’re playing multiples, keep it tight: one win anchor plus one each-way price is plenty. And remember: Kelso racing tips are only as good as your staking — don’t go chasing when the variance bites.
