Andrew Mount heads to Kempton and Lingfield on Monday 19 January for his best bets of the day, as he looks to bag the winner of the Surrey National at 1.50pm.
Taking at look at today’s action, Andrew has a sole selection for each card as he looks to kick off the week on a winning note.
Kempton Racing Tips (Monday 19 January 2026)
Seven races take place on the all-weather at Kempton on Monday, with the action kicking off at 1.08pm and going through until 4.08pm.
1.38 Kempton – Magna (1pt win – 6/4 generally)
Magna went into my tracker after her 18-1 fifth in a 7f Southwell handicap from stall 1 in late October at a meeting when it was a big advantage to race wide. The cut back to 6f helped at Kempton next time when we bet her at an each-way price (10-1 overnight) before she was punted into 5-2 favouritism, winning by a length. She followed up narrowly in a more valuable race at Southwell and I’m taking her to complete a hat-trick now that she’s back at her favourite venue under Oisin Murphy. Surprisingly, she’s running in a fillies’ handicap for the first time and that’s likely to make her hard to beat.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Monday 19 January 2026)
It’s Surrey National day at Lingfield with their card beginning at 12.50pm, and it’s the main race of the day that Andrew Mount heads to for his best bet.
1.50 Lingfield – Surrey Quest (1pt win – 10/1 William Hill)
The main talking point in the Surrey National this morning is the presence of Special John – fifth in the 3m4f handicap chase at Windsor yesterday. Sam Thomas’ seven-year-old has been backed from 16-1 into 7-2 overnight but this might be a case of manipulating the reduction factor on Betfair/Rule 4 deduction rather than a genuine move. He would be of interest if he made a quick return to action, as his trainer’s record with runners returning from a break of six days or less reads 111111 (6-6) for a profit of £5.93 to a £1 level stake at SP. I’ll save on him if he runs but I’m expecting that he’ll be pulled out at some point this morning. I can make cases for a few others, including Invincible Nao given his yard’s good record in this race (two winners and a third from four runners), though his patient running style is a concern (horses ridden patiently are one from 45 across the six runnings of this race). The one I’m going to side with is Surrey Quest who can be excused three poor efforts over hurdles this season. Toby Lawes’ nine-year-old was sent off at 12-1 for the Scottish National on his latest chase outing (fell) and is 8lb lower on his return to fences. The wind operation could also help, as he’s two from two on his first run back after previous bouts of wind surgery – one for Nicky Henderson and the other for his current yard.
