Kempton & Warwick Racing Tips - Matty Sutcliffe's Best Bets For Saturday 10 January

Saturday’s racecards are in a fight to beat the weather, but Kempton and Warwick‘s cards are worth exploring for aficionados should they go ahead.

Matty Sutcliffe has perused the action to come up with four best bets across the Saturday meetings, with three from Kempton and one from Warwick.

Kempton Racing Tips (Saturday 10 January 2026)

Kempton’s feature is the Lanzarote Hurdle, a 17-runner handicap this time around. One of Matt’s three tips on the card comes in the feature at a big price.

2:05 Kempton – Coral “New” Horse Racing Bet Builder Handicap Chase (GBB Race) (Class 2) (5yo+ 0-145) – Sea Invasion 12/1 1pt EW 2 places

Despite being 3lbs out of the weights, this looks a good chance for Sea Invasion to return to the winners enclosure despite a moderate reappearance last month. The son of Sea Moon had some smart form over hurdles, beaten 3/4L by Doyen Quest on his last appearance in that sphere and he was perhaps unfortunate to bump into some smart novices early on last season over fences.

He took advantage of a 10lbs drop in the weights when finally getting off the mark over fences at Plumpton in April in first time blinkers, with the third bolting up fourteen lengths next time out. H backed that up next time out when beating the 15/8 favourite who’s franked that form since, with that pair pulling sixty lengths clear of the third.

He was ridden in rear without any headgear on his reappearance at Wincanton over an inadequate trip so we can possibly draw a line through that, and I’d expect him to show up much stronger here stepping back up to three miles with the reapplied tongue-tie/blinkers combination.

3:17 Kempton – Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) (Class 2) (4yo+) – Just A Rose 25/1 1.5pt EW

I was wildly impressed with Just A Rose’s debut under rules at Taunton this time last year, where she blew the field apart to win by 26 lengths under a relatively motionless Freddie Gingell. It didn’t appear to be a fluke, as the second has won since now rated 111 and the fourth has won three times since now rated 122.

I was surprised they went to the Dawn Run at Cheltenham off the back of that one run, particularly as the original plan was to go to the Jane Seymour in between so it’s hardly surprising that she jumped poorly and struggled through lack of experience in that contest.

She returned this year back at Taunton from a 273 day layoff after having her wind done in the summer and I thought it was a ride that suggested there was another day in mind. She jumped and travelled perfectly well under Harry Cobden but despite being bang there on the turn, he was under no stress to give her a hard time and not one point did he ever get serious on her despite hitting the line full of running after clocking the fastest second final furlong by some way.

She gets in here off bottom weight for a yard who won this with a seven year old in 2017 and she still remains somewhat entirely unexposed. I’d envisage her to have at least 10lbs in hand and with that eye-catching run under her belt, I’d expect strong performance this time around.

15:17 Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race)

3:53 Kempton – Coral “Pipped-At-The-Post” Payouts Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Qualifier) (Class 3) (4yo+ 0-130) – King William Rufus 14/1 1pt EW 3 places

We can potentially drawn a line through King William Rufus’ performance at Ascot last time out when carrying 12-2 on soft ground in a race that paid to come from off the pace, and I’d expect a different showing here.

He was also pulled up in the Greatwood on soft ground, but he showed up well for a long way at Cheltenham on seasonal debut when beaten six lengths into fourth in a race which again paid to come from off the pace with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th all being noted to have raced in rear, and the four length winner ran very well next time out in a competitive 0-140 at Cheltenham.

King William Rufus was well backed to win a 0-135 at Cheltenham off 2lbs lower on his final start of last season after contesting some hot handicaps, and he’s of major interest returning here for the first time since being beaten four lengths by Kabral Du Mathan, who’s now rated 31lbs higher.

15:53 Coral “Pipped-At-The-Post” Payouts Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Qualifier)

Warwick Racing Tips (Saturday 10 January 2026)

Matty’s only tip on Warwick’s feature card on Saturday comes in its headline race, the 3m5f Classic Chase.

2:55 Warwick – William Hill Half A Mill Classic Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (5yo+) – Joyeux Machin 10/1 1pt EW 3 places

Dan Skelton has mastered the art of readying one for a big Saturday pot and Joyeux Machin looks to have been targeted towards this valuable prize. The Saddler Maker gelding switched hands to Dan Skelton from Paul Nolan last season after losing his way, and placed in some competitive handicaps over hurdles.

He returned this year with two lesser efforts in rear, but he caught the eye when returning to fences at Doncaster last month, finishing fourth off top-weight beaten only four lengths behind a course specialist.

He was dropped a lenient enough 2lbs for that effort and while he is 3lbs out of the weights, Harry Atkins’ 7lbs claim negates that and he’ll enjoy this sounder surface more than most. The addition of cheek-pieces is a sign of intent, and he shaped the last day as if this step up to 3m5f can bring out further improvement.

14:55 William Hill Half A Mill Classic Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race)
