16:30 – INCO Broking Maiden Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a fairly tight little maiden on paper rather than a deep one, with the market understandably centred on Early Dawning, Dawn Coming and the battle-hardened Tyson Fury. The Mullins runner has the obvious upside after just two starts, while Dawn Coming brings the best piece of solid placed form and receives plenty of weight as a 4yo. Tyson Fury, for all his exposed profile, has at least been knocking on the door and should make this a proper test at the trip. Beyond those three, it begins to thin out quickly, with Happy Me needing a revival and the bigger-priced runners looking up against it on what they’ve shown. The race may simply come down to class and latent improvement versus proven hurdling experience.

Top Selections

1. Early Dawning – 11/10 with Bet365

Jockey: Paul Townend | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 3/4- | Rating: | Topspeed:

It is never wise to get too clever when Willie Mullins introduces one with a touch of bumper promise into an ordinary enough summer maiden hurdle, and Early Dawning fits that bill perfectly. His form figures of 3/4- don’t scream certainty, but they do suggest ability, and this 2m4f should suit a 5yo who looks likely to improve for jumping and a proper stamina test. The booking of Paul Townend only underlines the intent. At 11/10 he is not a giveaway, but in a race where several rivals look exposed, he is the one with the most convincing scope to take a sizeable step forward. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Tyson Fury – 10/3 with Bet365

Jockey: Daniel King | Trainer: Denis Gerard Hogan | Form: 402-2 | Rating: 117 | Topspeed: 105

You would not call him unexposed at the age of nine, but Tyson Fury has the look of a reliable each-way play in a race lacking depth. He was runner-up on his latest start and that 402-2 profile tells you he has been holding his form well enough in this sphere. His rating of 117 and topspeed figure of 105 are perfectly respectable against these, and he is far less guesswork than most of the outsiders. The obvious concern is whether one of the younger improvers simply has too much class, but at 10/3 he makes more appeal as a solid place contender than some of the shorter-priced hype horses. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Early Dawning is the win play because this does not look a strong maiden and he is the one open to the most improvement. For an each-way punt, Tyson Fury makes plenty of sense given his consistent recent profile and solid figures. Dawn Coming is the obvious danger, especially with the weight allowance, but the price is a bit tighter than ideal in a race where experience may count.

17:05 – D. Ivo O’Sullivan Memorial Irish EBF Mares Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This is a compact but pretty useful mares’ hurdle rather than a messy guessing game, and the market has understandably latched on to Murcia after her latest win. Willie Mullins has a strong hand too with Diamond Du Berlais, while Birdie Or Bust looks the obvious threat getting weight from the principals. Grainne A Chroi brings the best recent topspeed figures outside the favourite and has enough class to get involved if this turns tactical. Ardeen Joy arrives off a win but needs another chunk of improvement at this level, and Run For Mahler may find one or two too sharp. Taketwotoone looks badly outclassed. In truth, this revolves around whether Murcia is still progressing over this trip, and I suspect she is.

Top Selections

1. Murcia – 5/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Paul Townend | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 4050-1 | Rating: 149 | Topspeed: 140

She had looked a bit frustrating for a spell, but that latest success suggested things are beginning to click, and a mark of 149 sets a clear standard in this field. The key point for me is that she is still only five, so there is every chance she has more to offer than exposed rivals in a race like this. Paul Townend is an obvious asset and Mullins rarely wastes bullets in these mares’ events. At 5/4 she’s not a giveaway, but she is hard to oppose on the figures and profile. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Grainne A Chroi – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Alan O’Sullivan | Trainer: Miss M Harding | Form: 2/1P-3 | Rating: 140 | Topspeed: 133

She’s interesting at a fairer price than some of the obvious names and could easily outrun market expectations. That comeback third was a respectable reappearance effort, and her overall profile says she can be competitive in this grade when on song. A rating of 140 leaves her with something to find against Murcia, but not an impossible amount, and her topspeed figure of 133 is solid in the context of this race. She also looks the type to be suited by a truly run 2m4f on decent ground. At 15/2, she makes a perfectly sensible each-way punt in a seven-runner field. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Murcia is the win play because she brings the best rating, the strongest recent signal of improvement and the Townend-Mullins edge. For an each-way option, Grainne A Chroi looks the value against the rest at 15/2. Birdie Or Bust is the obvious danger on the weights, while Diamond Du Berlais is respected as the other Mullins runner, but both look a shade short enough.

17:35 – Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (Div I)

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a proper summer handicap hurdle puzzle rather than a deep race, with plenty arriving either out of form or still trying to prove they can finish the job. Illtakehimmyself is the obvious starting point after a string of solid efforts, but he is short enough in a 17-runner field and gives weight all round. I Feel Fine and Hickeys Hill bring interesting bits of handicap form, while Uptaurintop is lurking on a workable weight if bouncing back. Clone Cross is another with each-way appeal after a better latest effort. In a race full of unreliable types, it may simply come down to who travels best and finds enough off the home turn, and I’d much rather side with one still looking fairly treated than an exposed plodder.

Top Selections

1. I Feel Fine – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Michael Kenneally | Trainer: M A Molloy | Form: 8U6P-4 | Rating: 102 | Topspeed: 92

He is not the easiest horse to catch absolutely right, but that latest fourth was a step back in the right direction and his Topspeed figure of 92 stands out favourably in a race of this nature. Off 102, he doesn’t look harshly treated at all if building on that run, and this 2m4f trip on decent ground should give him every chance to travel into it. Michael Kenneally takes over for a yard that can place one to good effect, and at 13/2 he makes more appeal than the cramped favourite in a big-field handicap where value matters. He holds strong claims if reproducing his better work. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Clone Cross – 9/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Kevin Healy | Trainer: Simon Cavanagh | Form: -FP2P3 | Rating: 108 | Topspeed: 85

There is clearly some risk attached because his profile is patchy, but the last twice have been much more encouraging, notably when runner-up and then third, and that gives him a fair each-way look here. He comes here off a mark of 108, yet the weight is eased by his rider and that could be significant in the closing stages over this trip. Kevin Healy knows the job in these opportunity handicaps, and this is the sort of horse who can sit handy and keep finding when others have cried enough. At 9/1 with five places on offer, he looks the sensible each-way punt in a race full of flaky alternatives. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

I’m happy to take on the short-priced Illtakehimmyself with I Feel Fine as the win play, as he looks on a workable mark and has the speed figure to back it up. Clone Cross is the each-way angle at 9/1 in a race where solid completion could be half the battle. Hickeys Hill rates the main danger if shrugging off his latest run.

18:10 – Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (Div II)

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a proper summer handicap hurdle: plenty with some sort of chance, not many arriving in red-hot form, and a few lurking on workable marks if they bounce back. Pleasureofpressure and Koeur A Prendre head the market for good reason, both coming here after solid efforts, while Tedworth is interesting if forgiven that latest unseat. Papagei and Inchidaly Copper also bring bits of form that put them firmly in the argument, and Miss Donna is the type to outrun her price from a low weight. It doesn’t scream strong race in absolute terms, but it is a tricky puzzle because several are tightly matched around the 98-106 mark and the pace and jumping rhythm over this trip are likely to matter as much as raw ability.

Top Selections

1. Pleasureofpressure – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Shane O’Callaghan | Trainer: P J Rothwell | Form: 4234-4 | Rating: 106 | Topspeed: 96

He makes plenty of appeal in a race where there are questions attached to most of these. Pleasureofpressure has been knocking on the door in this sort of company, his profile is solid rather than flashy, and that can be exactly what you want in a big-field handicap hurdle around Killarney. The mark of 106 looks fair enough, and his topspeed figure of 96 is one of the better pieces of evidence on offer here. That latest fourth suggested he remains in form, and Shane O’Callaghan gets aboard a runner who should travel well and see out the trip. At 4/1, he’s no giveaway, but he’s the percentage call.

Bet: WIN

2. Papagei – 9/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Joshua Halford | Trainer: Thomas Gibney | Form: 7F5-45 | Rating: 104 | Topspeed: 95

Papagei looks the each-way value because he has a bit more upside than some of the exposed handicappers around him. He’s only five, he’s already shown enough to be competitive off 104, and his recent fourth and fifth efforts suggest he’s not far away from putting it all together. The topspeed of 95 stacks up very well in the context of this race, and he doesn’t need to improve a ton to hit the frame at the very least. Joshua Halford takes over for Thomas Gibney, and in a race full of unreliable sorts, Papagei feels like one who should give you a run for your money at 9/1.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Pleasureofpressure is the win play; he looks the most dependable option and has fewer holes in his profile than the rest. Papagei is the each-way punt at a fairer price, especially with five places on offer. The obvious dangers are Koeur A Prendre, who could be well treated after that recent second, and Tedworth if he cuts out the mistakes.

18:45 – Noel C. Duggan Structural Steel 110 Series Final Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 4f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a proper competitive series final rather than a weak summer handicap, with several arriving in form and a few lurking on workable marks. Global Skies has done little wrong since switched into handicaps, winning his last two and understandably heading the market, but he is climbing the weights now and won’t get this all his own way. Only For Our Man keeps knocking on the door and has the profile of one who should be winning again soon, while Arcland brings solid recent figures and a smart topspeed number for a 10-year-old who clearly retains plenty of enthusiasm. Lower down, Blue Reed and Speakasyoufind are the sort who could easily outrun their prices. Tricky enough, but not impossible to unpick.

Top Selections

1. Global Skies – 11/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Danny Gilligan | Trainer: Ross O’Sullivan | Form: 78-211 | Rating: 115 | Topspeed: 84

He is the obvious one, but sometimes the obvious one is still the right one. Global Skies has improved sharply since getting his head in front, backing up one handicap hurdle win with another and doing it like a horse still ahead of the assessor. He’s only a 5-year-old, handles this sort of trip, and his profile is much more progressive than plenty of these exposed rivals. Danny Gilligan is a positive booking for a yard that does well with this type, and at 11/4 he looks short enough in a deep race but still fair given he may not have reached his ceiling yet. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Only For Our Man – 8/1 with Sky Bet

Jockey: Alan O’Sullivan | Trainer: Paul Nolan | Form: 021-22 | Rating: 118 | Topspeed: 112

For an each-way play, Only For Our Man makes plenty of appeal. He has been admirably consistent, his last two seconds suggesting he’s right on the cusp of another win, and that topspeed figure of 112 is one of the standout numbers in the field. Paul Nolan’s runner doesn’t look awkwardly treated, and this 2m4f test on decent ground should suit a horse who travels well and keeps finding. Alan O’Sullivan knows him, and in a 10-runner race with three places on offer, 8/1 feels a touch generous for one with such dependable recent form. He looks the value alternative to the favourite. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Global Skies is the win play because he’s the progressive one and may simply be better than this grade despite another rise. Only For Our Man is the each-way angle at the bigger price, with his consistency and strong figures making him solid place material. Arcland is the danger if the race gets tactical, while Blue Reed is another worth respecting from a handy weight.

19:20 – Kerry Drains Handicap Hurdle

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This is a proper Killarney handicap hurdle: plenty in with some sort of chance, but not many you could call bombproof. Secret Rock arrives off a win and is an obvious starting point, while Lips Freedom and Party President are near the head of the market after shaping well in different ways. Kilt also comes into it after a solid fourth and looks the type to keep improving, whereas Katakana is another with a recent success on the card. The trouble is that several of these have mixed profiles and a few, like Kabylia and Home By The Sea, are trying to bounce back. In a 15-runner field on decent ground, a clean round and a well-timed ride may matter as much as raw ability. Tricky enough, but not impossible to solve.

Top Selections

1. Secret Rock – 4/1 with Bet365

Jockey: E Walsh | Trainer: Cian Collins | Form: /5/5-1 | Rating: 115 | Topspeed: 105

He appeals as the solid one. Secret Rock had been lightly raced and a bit frustrating, but that latest win suggests things have clicked at the right time and an opening mark of 115 may not have him in a vice just yet. This 2m1f around Killarney should suit, and good ground looks no issue. E Walsh is the right man for a race that could get tactical in the middle stages before turning into a dash from the home bend. At 4/1 with Bet365, he is not a giveaway price in a field of 15, but he still makes most appeal because his recent profile is cleaner than most of these. Bet: WIN

2. Kilt – 10/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Shane O’Callaghan | Trainer: P J Rothwell | Form: 970-14 | Rating: 113 | Topspeed: 107

Kilt looks the value each-way play. He got off the mark before running a perfectly respectable fourth next time, and that latest effort did not scream that he had reached his ceiling. In fact, it hinted there could be a bit more to come now that he has found his feet in handicaps. A mark of 113 is workable, his Topspeed figure stacks up well enough against the principals, and this is not a race packed with hardened finishers. Shane O’Callaghan knows how to deliver one late, and the 10/1 with Paddy Power makes him very interesting for four places in a race where plenty have questions to answer. Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Secret Rock is the win play because he comes here with the strongest recent piece of form and still has the look of a horse ahead of his mark. Kilt is the each-way punt at the bigger price, with his profile pointing the right way. The obvious dangers are Lips Freedom, who could still be well treated despite the market respect, and Party President, who would not need much more to get involved.

19:55 – Matchbook Exchange INH Flat Race

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a fairly informative bumper rather than a deep one, with the market understandably centred on the two runners who already bring solid racecourse evidence. Caislean Gear sets the standard on what he has shown in two starts, and his rating backs that up, but Inishtearaght represents a yard that rarely wastes bullets in this sphere and he is the obvious danger on debut. Behind them, Bravemans Call and the Paul Nolan-trained Emergency Man are the sort who could step forward enough to get involved, while the rest look more speculative at the prices. In a race lacking strength in depth, proven bumper form should count for plenty, and that gives Caislean Gear a narrow edge in what is otherwise a slightly tricky little puzzle.

Top Selections

1. Caislean Gear – 11/8 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr A P Ryan | Trainer: Andrew Slattery | Form: 24 | Rating: 113 | Topspeed: 103

Caislean Gear is the one with the clearest and most trustworthy profile. He has already shown enough in finishing second and fourth to suggest a race like this is within reach, and that 113 rating is a fair marker in the context of this field. Just as importantly, his Topspeed figure of 103 says he has already run to a useful level for bumper company. In a race where several of these are guessing games, that counts for plenty. At 11/8 he is not exactly hidden from the market, but he still makes plenty of appeal because he sets the bar and may not need much more improvement to take this. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Bravemans Call – 7/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Mr J Dunne | Trainer: Eoin Christopher McCarthy | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

If you want to play against the obvious pair for an each-way angle, Bravemans Call makes more appeal than most. He lacks the established figures of Caislean Gear, but this is not a race packed with proven depth and 7/1 looks fair enough in an eight-runner bumper where three places are on offer. The market has him towards the front end without making him fashionable, which often catches the eye in these events. He does not need to be a world-beater to hit the frame, and if one of the principals underperforms, he is the type who could easily pick up the pieces. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Caislean Gear is the percentage call and the win bet, simply because he brings the best form and the strongest figures into a race where that may be decisive. For a second play, Bravemans Call appeals as the each-way punt at 7/1 in an eight-runner field with three places. Inishtearaght is the obvious danger if strong on debut.

Race Details: 2m 1f | | Going: GOOD (Watering) | | jumps

This looks a typically lively Killarney bumper to close the card, with a mix of lightly raced types, powerful yards and plenty of unknowns. Flashy Fred sets the standard on what we know after finishing second on debut and, as a 4yo with a 104 rating, he’s the obvious one to beat. But this is not a penalty kick in an 18-runner ladies’ pro/am, especially with Well Bud also bringing solid placed form and Willie Mullins fielding both Cast A Cold Eye and Village Dream. The market is understandably focusing on the obvious profiles, though Super Freak is another with enough ability to get involved. In truth, it’s a race where experience matters, but so does having a bit in hand, and the value may not sit right at the head of the betting.

Top Selections

1. Flashy Fred – 7/4 with Bet365

Jockey: Miss M O’Sullivan | Trainer: Conor Houlihan | Form: 2 | Rating: 104 | Topspeed:

Flashy Fred is the one with the cleanest piece of bumper form on offer and that debut second gives him a very solid platform in a race where plenty are guessing games. A mark of 104 puts him right there with the best of these, and the 4yo allowance is no bad thing either in this company. He doesn’t look wildly overpriced at 7/4, but he does look the most likely winner if building as expected from first to second start. In a field this deep you always worry about an unexposed one from a major stable, yet his proven ability counts for plenty and he sets the standard fair and square. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Cast A Cold Eye – 9/2 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Miss J Townend | Trainer: W P Mullins | Form: 5- | Rating: 90 | Topspeed:

You can easily argue that Cast A Cold Eye is the more interesting of the Mullins pair from a value perspective. That sole run, when fifth, doesn’t scream winner on paper, but it at least gives her a bit of grounding and it would be no surprise whatsoever if she took a good step forward for this yard. Miss J Townend is a notable booking in these contests and the stable knows exactly the type required for a summer bumper at Killarney. At 9/2 she makes more each-way appeal than some of the shorter ones, especially in an 18-runner race where proven professionalism can be half the battle. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Flashy Fred is the straightforward win play because he brings the best visible form and doesn’t need much improvement to land this. For an each-way punt, Cast A Cold Eye appeals at the prices given the Mullins factor and likely progress from her first outing. Well Bud and Village Dream look the obvious dangers, with Super Freak another who shouldn’t be dismissed lightly.
