Kempton Park’s card on Saturday 10 January passed an inspection on Friday, so they will host their top quality National Hunt fixture, which sees both the Lanzarote Hurdle and Silviniaco Conti Chase take place during the seven-race meeting.
We focus our attentions on the Lanzarote Hurdle, which is run over 2m 5f and will 17 runners to go post. We take a look at the runners for the competitive betting heat, as well as the racecard, odds and trends, and finally pick out our 1-2-3 for the contest.
2026 Lanzarote Hurdle Runners
Ben Pauling and Ben Jones have already teamed up for big-race success this season at Kempton Park and the King George VI Chase-winning pair will unleash Lanesborough, who was last seen cruising to an eight-and-a-half length victory at Doncaster. However, the hat-trick-seeking seven-year-old will face another brace of improving performer that are looking for a third win on the bounce as Dan Skelton’s A Pai De Nom and Philip Hobbs & Johnson White’s French Ship also take their chance here. All three will have to deal with significant hikes in the handicap, but head to Kempton in the form of their life. Paul Nicholls has opted to send Captain Teague back over hurdles after he was last seen struggling in the Grade 2 John Francome Novices’ Chase at Newbury, whilst Beat The Bat, Fasol and Came From Nowhere are another triumvirate that add notable depth to the contest.

French ShipLanzarote Hurdle Trends
One of the key things to look at when trying to work out and decipher these tough handicap hurdles is looking back at previous races. We pick out some of the key stats and trends to be aware of when making your selection.
- 7 of the last 10 winners have been aged 7 or younger
- Only 3 horses have carried more than 11st to victory in last 10 runnings
- Dan Skelton has won the last two renewals of this race
- Only 2 favourites/joint favourites have won this race in last 10 renewals
- 5 of the last 10 winners have been priced 10/1 or bigger
Lanzarote Hurdle Tips
The likes of Lanesborough, A Pai De Nom and French Ship all head into the event with a huge chance of continuing their winning runs, but they have their toughest tests to date and they could be vulnerable to a less exposed performer down the weights. One that catches the eye is Came From Nowhere for Champion Hurdle-winning duo Jeremy Scott and Lorcan Williams. An impressive two-and-a-half length winner over two-and-a-half miles at Hereford last time out, the seven-year-old has been given a 7lbs rise by the handicapper, so a mark of 124 will test him. However, the slight step up in trip here should prove in his favour and with only six career runs under rules on his CV, with all six of them seeing him finish in the first three, then he looks to be a solid play in a cracking renewal.
