29 races will be contested across four tracks on Tuesday 20 January across Britain and Ireland, with a pair of jumps and all-weather meetings apiece.
Andrew Mount heads to Leicester‘s jumps card and Newcastle‘s on the Tapeta for his four best bets for you to follow through the afternoon.
Leicester Racing Tips (Tuesday 20 January 2026)
Leicester’s card may only contain six races, but all of them look set to be hard-fought contests. Andrew’s three best bets at the meeting come in the final two races on the card.
3.32 Leicester – Mixedwave (1pt win – 11/1 general) & Nine Nine Nine (0.5pt e/w – 9/1 general)
Mixedwave tends to come good in the first quarter of the year and his record over fences from the beginning of January until the end of March reads 411231215P1 (5-11) for a profit of £8.55 to a £1 level stake at SP. One of those wins came at Leicester where his trainer, Pam Sly, has a fantastic overall record, scoring with 29 of her 190 runners (Flat and jumps combined) winning for a profit of £143.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£357.20 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). The nine-year-old was only seventh at Huntingdon last month but that run, his second of the season, was still needed and he drops back down from Class 4 to Class 5 level today. The ground on the chase course at Leicester today– officially good to soft, soft in places on the chase course – is slower than her prefers but there’s compensation in the price.
I also want to back course expert Nine Nine Nine each-way as he’s never finished out of the first three here when completing the course. The Sarah-Jayne Davies-trained nine-year-old has form figures at this stiff right-handed venue of U1133222 (2-8) for a profit of £11.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. The three runner-up efforts came at odds of 6-1, 9-2 and 11-2 and he traded at 1.32, 2.08 and 2.02 in-running respectively, suggesting he could also be a good back-to-lay trading option.
4.02 Leicester – Kantagua Du Large (0.5pt e/w – 15/2 general, 7/1 Sky Bet with four places is a good option)
Kantagua Du Large took the ‘swamp’ route on the inside rail when a 33-1 fifth of nine in a mares’ handicap hurdle at Wincanton in mid-December, doing well to finish just over 16 lengths behind the winner. That run, her first since late March, would have been needed and she remains open to improvement on only her fifth start since leaving France and her third run in a handicap hurdle.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Tuesday 20 January 2026)
In the eight races at Newcastle on Tuesday, Andrew’s tip runs in a class 6 handicap late on the card.
3.43 Newcastle – Asadjumeirah (1pt win – 9/2 bet365, 4/1 general)
The January/February period is usually the time to side with Antony Brittain’s runners and backing them blind in the first two months of the new year would have found 61 winners from 455 bets (13.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £11.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£87.95 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). Throw in the proviso that they must have had a recent outing (19 days or less) and the score becomes 52 from 295 (17.6%) for a profit of £87.13 at SP and a massive £155.81 at BSP (+£52.8% on turnover). Asadjumeirah contributed three of those wins (from 11 runs) including form figures at Newcastle of 1417155 (3-7), with the wins at 8-1, 15-2 and 5-1. She looked on her way back when fourth over course and distance last time and this sometimes-keen sort will be able to get cover from his middle draw.
