Tuesday’s racing is down to three meetings with the abandonment of Market Rasen. There is still jumps and all-weather action to look forward to throughout the day, however.
GG tipster Joe Napier sticks to the jumps for our lucky 15 tips. He has two selections apiece from Leopardstown and Newcastle for you to follow.
Leopardstown Racing Tips (Tuesday 3 March)
Having hosted El Fabiolo on Monday, there may not be a horse of that calibre at Leopardstown on Tuesday. However, there are some quality races on offer, as we have two best bets on the card.
1.55 Leopardstown – Generous Risk (1pt win – 5/2)
Gordon Elliott’s team are taking no more time with Generous Risk, who is fast-tracked to hurdles here. The six-year-old had been running in bumpers and to decent effect. He hit the frame at Cork, Fairyhouse and Leopardstown, before being a more fancied stablemate of the winner of the Grade 2 bumper at the Dublin Racing Festival. He was probably too keen in decent company that day, but was not beaten far. Elliott’s charge also appeared to handle the ground fine, while this step up to 2m5f looks ideal. He won a point-to-point by 15 lengths this time last year, so stamina should be no issue. In a race that should prove weaker than a Grade 2 bumper, he can make a winning hurdles start.
3.25 Leopardstown – Midnight Our Fred (1pt win – 6/1)
He is not a winning machine, but Midnight Our Fred is rated 18lb higher over fences than this hurdles mark. As such, he should be highly competitive over timber here, with 3m his optimum trip. He has not quite hit the heights of his Paddy Power Chase second from last season this term. However, he was second on his return, after 255 days off, when back over hurdles at Cork. That was a good start to this campaign and he was probably unlucky to bump into a winner who had plummeted down the handicap and who has regained his form since. He is forgiven some weaker runs in trickier races over fences more recently and is only 3lb higher for Cork. Given he was nearly ten lengths clear of the third, he may still be too well-treated.
Newcastle Racing Tips (Tuesday 3 March)
Newcastle’s is the only jumps card left in England on Tuesday. Across six races at the north east track, we have two top tips.
2.05 Newcastle – Take A Hike (1pt win – 6/1)
Take A Hike may have been pulled up at Leicester, but desperate conditions would not have helped. Back on a sounder surface, she can profit once again. The mare had been improving in 2024/25 without getting the rub of the green over hurdles. Therefore, she was well-backed on her reappearance at Kelso, which she won nicely off a mark of 79. She then ran very well on heavy ground at Ayr upped to 3m in December. The daughter of Mahler only faded out of contention late, while the track was racing even slower at Leicester next time. That is unlikely to be a true reflection of her abilities and she can bounce back.
3.05 Newcastle – Silver Hill (1pt win – 11/8)
Irish raider Minella Supreme will have to refind his mojo to some extent to trouble form candidate Silver Hill. The selection has gone from strength to strength this campaign, unsurprisingly for a yard in sensational form. Having won a bumper and made a disappointing return, he landed the odds smoothly enough at Catterick in November. Under a penalty, he was then unlucky to be beaten a neck, conceding a stone to the winner, most recently. That scorer has since finished second on his handicap debut, while the third that day was already rated 113. Although he is technically up against it on ratings with Minella Supreme, he looks the more progressive prospect.
