Doncaster Racing Tips (Saturday 12 September 2026)
Andrew picks out his fancies for day three in Doncaster, with the St Leger Stakes itself leading the billing.
2.20 Doncaster – Getreadytorumble (1pt e/w – 6/1 Hills, 11/2 general)
Jack Channon’s Getreadytorumble is a good statistical fit for the Portland. His stall 20 draw should prove advantageous, on Friday’s evidence as well as historically. The four-year-old was narrowly beaten into second at Ascot last time, when he was a bet for this column. The winner got first run that day. Today’s extra 140 yards and easier ground are also in his favour. So too is the return to Doncaster, where he won his sole start. I’ve saved on Rosario, the other I mentioned on GG’s Weekend Watch.
2.55 Doncaster – More Thunder (2pt win – Coral, Ladbrokes, 11/10 general)
More Thunder (pictured) has been running well in the top one-mile Group races this term but without success and the cut back to 7f looks ideal in the Group 2 Park Stakes, especially given the likely strong pace and forecast headwind. His record over 6f-7f for William Haggas stands at 112114 (4-6), with the runner-up effort by a head in last season’s Wokingham when the winner got first run and the fourth place from a terrible draw in the Group 1 Prix De La Foret over 7f at Longchamp.
3.35 Doncaster – Pierre Bonnard (1pt win – 100/30 Hills, 3/1 general)
Current 9-4 favourite Enceladus could prove vulnerable in the St Leger as he’s up in class and wears first time cheekpieces, his prominent style could also be an issue. Just two of the last 134 runners in first-time cheekpiece have won in Group 1 company in Britain/Ireland. Second favourite Christmas Day looks in need of softer going and could also prove vulnerable if adopting his usual prominent style over a course and distance that strongly favours late closers. The pace set-up and long straight look ideal for Pierre Bonnard, best of the closers when runner-up to Maltese Cross in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last time where he had Christmas Day back in third.
Chester Racing Tips (Saturday 12 September 2026)
Andrew picks out two selections to keep an eye on in the fifth race of eight at Chester on Saturday.
3.50 Chester – Box To Box (1pt win – 8/1 bet365) & Mano Chicago (0.5pt win – 7/1 bet365 )
Box To Box (stall 2 of 11) has been beaten four times at Chester’s May meeting. His form figures there read 6275 (0-4). Later in the season, though, his Roodee record stands at 1112122 (4-7). That is a profit of £10.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. Hugo Palmer’s seven-year-old will improve for last month’s Windsor sixth of eight, his first outing in 11 months. He also has plenty of ‘previous’ in today’s extended ten-furlong handicap. Victory came in 2023, and last year he was a half-length runner-up, doing best of the prominent racers. He did not contest the race in 2024. He’s 2lb lower than last year and could get the run of the pace out in front.
The other one to side with is the Iain Jardine-trained Mano Chicago (stall 10). He is not as well berthed as Box To Box, however. The four-year-old qualified as a bet for me at Ayr on his stable debut 33 days ago. That is because ex-Johnny Murtagh inmates often run well at the first time of asking for their new handlers. This is especially so when they are running in Britain. He was keen and prominent that day in a race run to suit the closers. Still, he did really well to hold on for an 11-1 third under top weight. The winner was described as “held up in midfield”, the runner-up as “dwelt start, held up in midfield”. The visor goes on for the first time and there could be improvement to come.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Saturday 12 September 2026)
Andrew identifies an each way pick from Saturday’s bumper nine-race card at Lingfield.
4.35 Lingfield – Tie Fighter (0.5pt e/w – 25/1 bet365)
Tie Fighter caught the eye on several occasions when with Ed Dunlop and did so again when fifth over today’s course and distance on last month’s debut for bang-in-form Simon Dow. The three-year-old son of Mehmas was very weak in the market, going off at 20-1 for that Class 6 handicap, and was left with plenty to do under a midfield sit. He kept on into a 5.5 length fifth, doing best of the closers, in what looked very much like a getting-to-know-you exercise. I’d [like to have seen Paddy Bradley back on board – he rides Venetian Romance for Michael Attwater – but he’s still worth a small each-way dabble.
