GG tipster Joe Napier continues with our lucky 15 tips for the week. His four selections on Thursday run at Lingfield and Ffos Las.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Thursday 27 August)
Lingfield’s six-race card features a class 3 maiden stakes. One of our tips runs in that contest, with our other running in the penultimate race.
2.52 Lingfield – Scrappetalene (1pt win – 7/2)
Sent off 40/1 for her debut at Haydock, Scrappetalene ran an eyecatching race for a big outsider. The daughter of Camelot not only met interference at the start, but was very badly hampered before making her challenge in the straight. However, she stayed on very likeably through the line, still applying herself well at the finish. That bodes very well for the rest of her racing career, suggesting she both has ability and staying power. She steps up to 1m for her all-weather bow at Lingfield, which looks a good move. There is loads of stamina in her pedigree, so in time she will want further. For now, though she can score in this winnable shorter contest.
4.22 Lingfield – Pride Eye (1pt win – 4/1)
The move back in distance to 1m2f can pay dividends for Pride Eye in this classified event. Mark Rimell’s charge was a handicap winner off 52 earlier this year. She struggled in two more runs over 1m, but showed promise upped to 1m2f on her introduction to turf this summer. She was fourth at both Nottingham and Yarmouth, though was dropped to a rating of 50 by the handicapper anyway. Made favourite for a classified race here over 1m4f, she could finish only fifth after racing too keenly. She is well worth another go at this level though and should be more at home over this shorter trip.
Ffos Las Racing Tips (Thursday 27 August)
There is Irish interest at Ffos Las on Thursday as Emmet Mullins sends a runner to the Welsh track. However, our two lucky 15 tips at the venue run earlier on the card.
3.37 Ffos Las – Macarone (1pt win – 7/1)
Having been kept to handicap company despite his declining mark, Macarone can land Ffos Las’ Thursday classified stakes. Grace Harris’ charge has plummeted to a rating of 47. However, the five-year-old was beaten a short-head off that mark over course and distance last month. A week-and-a-half later, repeated trouble in running ensured he and Olivia Haines only finished fifth of seven at Chepstow. The Havana Grey gelding was value for a better finishing position though. Off level weights with those of similar ratings, he can now make his mark. Rossa Ryan is a jockey booking that signals intent.
4.07 Ffos Las – Last Flight (1pt win – 15/8)
On his first run for James Horton, Last Flight ran a big race at Lingfield earlier in August. A daughter of Derby hero Masar, she looks to stay all day. She was uncompetitive in maiden and novice events over 1m-1m2f, but has improved with every increase in distance. A fifth over 1m4f preceded two thirds, one over 1m6f, then over 2m last time out. She came from a long way back in the ten-runner field most recently, but stayed right the way through the line. With her stamina now assured, Stevie Donohoe can ride with more aggression to get the trip. She is on a mark of just 54, which can prove too low here.
