Four horse racing fixtures take place on Monday 12 January as the cold snap begins to disappear and National Hunt racing returns. Our resident tipster looks to kick off the week in style and heads to Lingfield and Hereford for his best bets of the day.
Monday’s racing tips sit below, as Andrew goes through both the Lingfield and Hereford fixtures and picks out his best bet from each meeting.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Monday 12 January 2026)
Lingfield kicks off the day’s racing at 12.40pm, as they host a seven-race card on the all-weather, and Andrew looks to strike early and his best bet at the track comes in the opening contest.
12.40 Lingfield – Master Of My Fate (1pt win – 5/1 generally)
Master Of My Fate finished a well beaten last of seven at Wolverhampton in mid-December on his return from a 142-day break but that run was clearly needed and, though beating only one home at Southwell on December 28th, the 33-1 shot was beaten by a little over five lengths and improved his RRP (Racing Post Rating) by 16lb from his comeback effort. John and Sean Quinn’s five-year-old was a winner at third time of asking last winter and has form figures in the month of January of 111 (3-3). The ‘dead’ inside rail was fully evident here on Saturday and his stall 7 of 7 draw is likely to be advantageous, as fellow prominent racers Coronado King (stall 1) and Almaty Star (stall 3) should ensure that he remains away from the ‘swamp’.
Hereford Racing Tips (Monday 12 January 2026)
Hereford’s jumps card begins at 1.00pm and yet again Andrew Mount attempts to kick the fixture off with a winner in the opening race, as he has a 1.5pt win selection.
1.00 Hereford – Lightonthewing (1.5pt win – 4/1 bet365, 100/30 William Hill)
After pulling up at Stratford and Chepstow in September/October, Illogical Logic returned to form with a narrow second at Windsor in late November but that came on good ground (it was much faster than the official good to soft) and his sole success came on firm going (officially ‘good’) according to the race times. Throw in a preference for small fields and the 7-2 favourite looks worth taking on. Preference is for Sue Gardner’s Lightonthewing who clocked a good time for the grade when scoring at Wincanton last time on his return to fences. That took his record in handicaps when returned to the track 42 days or sooner since his latest outing to eight wins from 29 runs (27.6%) for a profit of £83.25 to a £1 level stake at SP. The vete4ran has yet to race here but given his preference for right-handed tracks it is likely to suit.
