The racing remains on the all-weather on Wednesday, though the forecast is beginning to pick up. The two meetings both take place in the south of England as Lingfield and Kempton are set to go to post.
Andrew Mount has picked out four best bets on the artificial surfaces on Wednesday, with one each-way tip joining three for win purposes only.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Wednesday 7 January 2026)
Lingfield’s seven-race card is headlined by a class 3 maiden which could host a star of the upcoming flat season in waiting, though it is in two of the handicaps where Andrew Mount has picked out two best bets.
1.05 Lingfield – Tiger Crusade (1pt each-way – 13/2 bet365)
There looks to be sufficient pace in this 6f Class 4 handicap to set things up for a closer out wide and I’m expecting that to be top weight Tiger Crusade. The David Simcock-trained veteran seems best when conceding weight to inferior rivals, landing five of his 18 handicap starts when one of the top two in the weights for a profit of £15.00 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£22.32 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). He didn’t have the race run so suit when third to Intervention over course and distance last time, doing best of the closers, and his two other course outings on Polytrack produced a win and an 15-2 third. Silky Wilkie (stall 3), Elouise’s Prince (stall 4 of 8), No Return (stall 6), Accrual (stall 7) and Cayman Tai (stall 8) can all put pace to the race and Tiger Crusade (stall 5) will hopefully challenge wide down the middle of the track, usually the best place to be. Hierarchy (stall 1) could get trapped on the inside rail from his low draw, but he still looks the biggest threat to the selection.
3.05 Lingfield – Naval Ensign (1pt win – 2/1 bet365)
Naval Ensign was desperately unlucky over course and distance three runs back, meeting trouble repeatedly before finishing a five-length tenth of 12. She picked up too late when a two-length sixth of nine over the same track and trip next time and finally got off the mark in another 7f handicap on her latest start, quickening well in the closing stages to score by a neck. Jack Jones’ four-year-old looks capable of adding to that victory in a race that should be run to suit. Her trainer does well with last time out winners, scoring with 24 of the 88 qualifiers (27.3% strike-rate) for a profit of £12.26 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£29.82 at BSP after 2% commission).
Kempton Racing Tips (Wednesday 7 January 2026)
Kempton’s evening meeting also boasts seven races, with London Series qualifiers, and a class 2 handicap ensuring some quality action. Andrew has two selections on the card.
5.00 Kempton – Ya Habibti (1pt win – 6/1 bet365)
Ya Habibti, backed late from 9-1 into 7-1, failed to settle in a 6f restricted maiden at Newcastle last month and did far too much too soon. Dylan Cunha’s filly pressed the early pace before leading after two furlongs and had nothing left at the business end, weakening into a three-length fourth. That was a respectable run in the circumstances, and she looks very interesting now going handicapping off a mark of 62. She doesn’t need to improve much on the clock to take a hand and, with form danger Espona Bay stuck out wide in stall 12 of 12, she looks worth a bet.
6.00 Kempton – Rory’s Royale (1pt win – 16/1 bet365)
Rory’s Royale was a huge eyecatcher over course and distance back on October 22nd, finishing a 200-1 fifth of 12 (beaten by seven lengths), emerging second best of the closers, and his subsequent front-running 14-1 third of five at Chelmsford looked to be all about getting a favourable handicap mark. He I had expected improvement on his handicap debut at Kempton on December 10th but a drift from the overnight 6-1 out to 33-1 told us all we needed to know and he was the subject of a stewards’ report. The first-time cheekpieces provide a ready-made excuse should he leave that form well behind and he’s worth another chance.
