As the cold weather continues to decimate the National Hunt action in the UK & Ireland it’s the all-weather flat fixtures that take centre stage, and on Wednesday 7 January we have a brace of meetings taking place at Lingfield in the afternoon and Kempton in the evening.
Our GG Lucky 15 tips for Wednesday focuses on both meetings, and we pick out two tips from each meeting for what should be another chilly day’s racing.
Lingfield Racing Tips (Wednesday 7 January 2026)
Seven races at Lingfield begin at 12.35pm with a 1m 7f 169y staying event, while the fixture is rounded off with a 6f sprint at 3.35pm. Check out our two best Lingfield bets here.
12.35 Lingfield – Sapphire Sirocco (1pt win – 4/1)
A course-and-distance winner, Tony Carroll’s The Craftymaster has fallen down the weights and looks to be on an attractive mark in the 12.35pm contest. However, the one that makes more appeal is Sapphire Sirocco, who is another with course and distance form and can land victory here. You only have to go back to November for that previous win over Wednesday’s trip, and he’s only 2lbs higher for this event. He was third on his new mark of 48, but the second that day has since come out and won, so the form has been franked and he has to be a huge contender here.
2.35 Lingfield – Athenian Spirit (1pt win – 5/1)
William Knight’s Athenian Spirit put up a career best two starts ago when finishing second at Wolverhampton, but he failed to fire on his last outing at Newcastle and is looking to bounce back to form in the 2.35pm contest at Lingfield. He’s been given a chance by the handicapper as has been dropped 1lb to 55, so he’s only 2lbs higher than the mark he ran off when runner-up at Wolves. Plenty of mediocre challengers take their chance here, and Athenian Spirit will have the burden of top weight, but he’s shown he can deliver the goods on a going day and he’s worth taking a chance on.
Kempton Racing Tips (Wednesday 7 January 2026)
Another seven races will be run at Kempton on Wednesday night between 5pm and 8pm, with some competitive, big runner fields bidding for victory in some low-key contests.
6.00 Kempton – Up The Anti (1pt win – 9/4)
With three wins from 13 starts last season, Up The Anti was hugely consistent for Tony Carroll and she can kick off 2026 with another victory in the 6.00pm race. A shock 50/1 at Kempton last month, she can duly defy a 3lbs higher mark in this contest and with Oisin Murphy in the saddle she can continue her fine record. The likes of Lerwick and Gundogan could prove to be notable thorns in her side, but Up The Anti continues to improve with her racing, and there’s no suggestion her winning ways will stop any time soon.
6.30 Kempton – Mount Athos (1pt win – 15/8)
With over £13,000 to the winner, the 6.30pm at Kempton has attracted some smart performers with former Royal Ascot winner Witch Hunter one of the standout runners. However, Richard Hannon’s charge can be downed by Mount Athos, who is a five-times course-and-distance winner and is capable of carrying top weight to victory here. Placed in two Listed events in France on his last two outings, James Tate’s seven-year-old will drop into calmer waters for this event, and if he can replicate those Deauville runs on a return to the all-weather then he can simply outclass the rest of the field.
