Lingfield Racing Tips (Tuesday 25 August 2026)
Andrew picks a longstanding tracker horse for his sole selection on Lingfield’s all-weather on Tuesday.
4.00 Lingfield – Tie Fighter (0.5pt e/w – 20/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 18/1 generally)
I have a long history with the former Ed Dunlop-trained Tie Fighter, who went into my tracker with the following comment last autumn…
“Handicap job. Made to go again after 3rd start”
He was clearly “not off” when a 66-1 sixth in a 7f novice contest at Chelmsford on his third outing last year (August 28th) and, having not been given a mark by the handicapper, he ran in another 7f novice fourth time out, this time at Leicester on September 9th – switching to front-running tactics on his way to a 66-1 sixth behind last week’s York winner Blue Courvoisier. I backed him each-way that day, expecting a patient ride, and after trading at 3.0 (2-1) in-running from his Betfair SP of 171.79, he faded out of the places. Connections decided not to take the handicap route on his fifth start, opting instead for a 5f Leicester novice in which he finished second by a short head. It was mostly downhill after that, though he finished a respectable 9-1 fourth at Wolverhampton in mid-June and he could be worth chancing on his debut for Simon Dow. Regular readers of this column and viewers of GG’s Weekend Watch YouTube channel will know that I’m no fan of Ed Dunlop as a trainer and it’s interesting to note that, since 2015, backing horses who leave Dunlop are 25 from 187 (13.4%) on their debuts for their new handlers for a profit of £59.67 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£131.87 at Betfair SP after 2% commission, expected wins = 15.60, A/E = 1.60). We might be getting there a race or to too soon, but I can’t resist a small interest.
Musselburgh Racing Tips (Tuesday 25 August 2026)
The sole selection for Andrew north of the border at Musselburgh runs in the finale at the Scottish track.
4.45 Musselburgh – Beerwah (1.5pt win – 5/1 generally)
South Parade heads the betting for this 5f handicap on the strength of her Ayr win on August 8th but she might have been flattered from her favourable high draw that day. The three highest drawn runners finished first, second and fourth that day and the fourth has already been well beaten since, finishing ninth of ten. Beerwah might be the best alternative, as he looks set to encounter the required strong pace despite the small field. Jojo Rabbit and Zuffolo usually make the running, and Beerwah is well drawn in stall 6 to adopt a stalking position on the rail. The four-year-old clocked a good Proform speed figure when a half-length second at Bath on his latest assignment and his previous eighth at Beverley can be excused on account of the draw.
