A bumper eight-race card gets under way at Lingfield Park on the all-weather at 12.48pm and goes right through until 4.18pm. Andrew’s selections run in the 3.18pm and 3.48pm contests.
3.18 Lingfield – Coolagh Magic (0.5pt e/w – 14/1 generally with the firms paying four places)
Beauzon won well from the front for this column at Wolverhampton last night, but his forcing style is less effective round here, as he’ll likely end up on the inside rail which has been riding ‘dead’ most of the winter. He could also face pace pressure from Sir Rodneyredblood, Desdemona and Nubough. I’d rather play each-way on veteran Coolagh Magic despite trainer Anthony Carson’s long losing run (without a winner for 359 days on the Flat, albeit from only 27 runners). The gelding returned from wind surgery with a respectable 25-1 fourth over 5f here at the end of last month and he came good at this time last year, winning on February 2nd and 16th.
3.48 Lingfield – Perfect Life (1pt win – 5/2 Ladbrokes)
Owen Burrows has a good record at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers and the only qualifier to come from the Marco Botti yard – Royal Dubai – was a 10-1 winner in Listed company at Newbury last summer before following up in a Group 3 at Haydock. Perfect Life, another ex-Botti inmate who runs in the Saeed Sultan Al Rahoomi colours, beat only one home in a Sandown handicap when we last saw him but has form figures on the all-weather of 312 (1-3) and looks a potential improver for his new handler. Stall 9 should ensure that he stays clear of the inside rail and he’s worth a bet.
