14:15 – Follow @attheraces On X Apprentice Handicap
Race Details: 1m 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This looks a modest staying handicap rather than a deep one, and that tends to make the market quite revealing. Laravie is the obvious talking horse after joining James Owen and dropping into this basement grade off just 59, while Balgowan brings the strongest recent all-weather form and a useful Topspeed figure for the level. Charles Morin is another with solid enough placed form in similar races and he should stay the trip well, whereas In The Post still has a bit to prove over this far. The rest look fairly exposed, with Everest capable on a going day but inconsistent and Adrian and Chillhi needing a fair bit more. It is not an impossible puzzle, but the race does seem to revolve around whether Laravie is well treated enough to justify cramped odds.
Top Selections
1. Balgowan – 11/4 with Bet365
Jockey: Ashley Lewis | Trainer: Seamus Mullins | Form: 3374-3 | Rating: 74 | Topspeed: 55
Balgowan appeals most because he brings the most convincing piece of current staying form into the race. His recent third reads well in the context of this weak Class 6 and that Topspeed mark of 55 is a proper standout against most of these. He is a seven-year-old, so there is no mystery to him, but in races like this dependability counts for plenty and Seamus Mullins has him running consistently enough. From stall 1 he should get a handy trip if Ashley Lewis is positive, and at 11/4 he makes more appeal than a short-priced favourite who is being asked to prove a point after three quiet runs. He holds the strongest all-round claims.
Bet: WIN
2. Charles Morin – 17/2 with Bet365
Jockey: James Glennon | Trainer: Pat Phelan | Form: 23-425 | Rating: 67 | Topspeed: 55
Charles Morin looks the each-way value in a race where several of these have become hard to trust. His form figures are not flashy, but they are honest, and he has been knocking on the door in similar company without quite getting his head in front. The equal-best Topspeed figure in the field says he has the raw numbers to be competitive, and his mark of 67 looks workable if this race turns into a proper test of stamina rather than a sprint off the bend. Pat Phelan’s runner is not an exciting type, but at 17/2 he is the sort who can reward an each-way punt if the favourite underwhelms.
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Balgowan is the win play because he arrives with the best recent credentials and the strongest speed figure for the grade. For an each-way alternative, Charles Morin makes more appeal than taking short odds about Laravie, who may well improve but is priced on promise rather than substance. Laravie is the obvious danger, with In The Post another to keep in mind if seeing out the trip.

14:45 – Amwins And Aegis Living The Dream Handicap
Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This is a small-field sprint but not quite the penalty kick the market suggests. Travel Agent arrives on the back of a win and is the obvious one after stepping forward in his last two starts, though this sharper 6f test in a tactical five-runner race asks a slightly different question. Maharajas Express has bits of form that make him dangerous if bouncing back from a break, while Lequinto is the solid old professional who usually gives you a run for your money around here. Diamond Dreamer and Mart both need to find a little on recent efforts, but neither is completely dismissed in a race lacking depth. It’s not a strong Class 5 by any means, yet the pace scenario and track position could matter more than usual.
Top Selections
1. Travel Agent – 11/8 with Bet365
Jockey: Charles Bishop | Trainer: Adam Kirby | Form: 59-421 | Rating: 82 | Topspeed: 69
Travel Agent is hard to oppose after shaping like a horse coming to hand and then getting the job done last time. That form line reads well enough in the context of this race, and his mark of 82 still gives him a narrow edge on official figures. He’s a 4yo taking on a few exposed older rivals, which is often the angle to follow in these spring handicaps, and Charles Bishop is well capable of making the most of a handy position from a wide draw in a five-runner affair. At 11/8 with Bet365 he isn’t a giveaway, but he does look the likeliest winner if reproducing that latest effort. Bet: WIN
Betting Strategy
Keep it simple in a race of this size: Travel Agent is the win bet and the only one worth siding with. There’s no each-way angle with just five runners. If you want to look beyond the favourite, Lequinto is the obvious danger for place purposes, while Maharajas Express has the class to get involved if returning sharp enough.

15:15 – Free Race Replays On attheraces.com Restricted Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (Bands C And D) (GBB Race)
Race Details: 1m 2f | Class 4 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This revolves around a handful of unexposed 3yos, with Ticker Tape the obvious starting point after a promising third on debut and St Hilda bringing the best piece of exposed form among those to have already shown their hand. Madrisa and Lady Magu add some intrigue as debutantes from top yards, and this sort of restricted maiden is often exactly the place where a well-bred newcomer can make an immediate impact. Still, Ticker Tape sets a fair standard on the figures and shaped as though this step up to 1m2f would suit. Barbuda Bay has more experience than most and is not dismissed, but she was only eighth on her return and may be playing for minor money again. Not the deepest Class 4 maiden, but it is not entirely straightforward either.
Top Selections
1. Ticker Tape – 5/6 with Betfair
Jockey: Robert Havlin | Trainer: John & Thady Gosden | Form: 3 | Rating: 58 | Topspeed: 32
She is short, but for good reason. That debut third was the best single piece of form in the race among the less exposed types, and a mark of 58 is already enough to put her right at the head of affairs in this company. The Gosdens are hardly in the habit of leaving much on the table second time up, and Robert Havlin is the usual reliable guide on these improving fillies. From stall 11 she may need a sensible ride early, but over 1m2f at Lingfield I can see her finding a rhythm and asserting late. At 5/6 she is no hidden gem, just the most solid winner in the line-up. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. St Hilda – 5/1 with Paddy Power
Jockey: David Probert | Trainer: Marcus Tregoning | Form: 4- | Rating: 58 | Topspeed: 43
If you want something at a backable each-way price against the favourite, St Hilda makes plenty of appeal. She ran to the same rating as Ticker Tape when fourth on her sole start, and her Topspeed figure of 43 is actually the best on offer here among the principal contenders. That suggests there was more substance to her run than the bare finishing position might imply. David Probert around Lingfield is a booking to note, and Tregoning’s fillies can take a nice step forward from two to three. Available at 5/1, she looks the value play to hit the frame and possibly give the market leader something to think about. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Ticker Tape is the straightforward win play and looks hard to oppose if building on a promising debut for the Gosdens. For an each-way punt in a 12-runner field, St Hilda makes more appeal than the shorter-priced newcomers because she has already posted a competitive figure. The main danger is Madrisa, while Lady Magu is another debutante to keep onside if the market speaks loudly.

15:45 – Tia Giggle Gallop Handicap
Race Details: 7f | Class 4 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This is a compact little handicap but not a weak one, with several arriving off marks in the mid-90s and very little room for error over Lingfield’s sharp 7f. El Matador is the obvious focal point for Ralph Beckett after mixing it in better races last season and he looks the class angle back in calmer waters. Port Road is interesting on the switch back to this surface after winning at Kempton before disappointing next time, while Silver Trumpet has the profile of one who could easily get involved if this is run to suit. Tiger Crusade is battle-hardened but looks a little exposed now, and the likes of Lunario and King’s Vanity need a revival. It’s not impossible, but the favourite does set a fair standard.
Top Selections
1. El Matador – 1/1 with Bet365
Jockey: Hector Crouch | Trainer: Ralph Beckett | Form: 11075- | Rating: 95 | Topspeed:
El Matador looks the one they all have to beat. He won his first two starts last year and, although his form tailed off a touch afterwards, those defeats came in stronger company than this and there was no disgrace in it. A mark of 95 looks workable for a 4yo from this yard, especially dropping into a seven-runner Class 4 where tactical speed matters as much as outright flair. Hector Crouch is a good booking around here and stall 5 should give him options. Even at even money, he is hard to oppose if returning in the same shape. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. Port Road – 7/1 with Bet365
Jockey: Paddy Bradley | Trainer: Simon Dow | Form: 939-16 | Rating: 96 | Topspeed: 88
Port Road appeals as the each-way play because he has already shown he can be effective on the all-weather and his Kempton win two starts back reads well enough in this company. He was below that level when only sixth last time, but that is reflected in the price and this is not the deepest Class 4 you will see. His topspeed figure of 88 stacks up well against most of these, he has a handy low draw in 2, and Paddy Bradley should be able to keep him close enough turning for home. At 7/1, he looks the value alternative to the favourite. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Keep it simple: El Matador is the win bet and makes the most appeal on class and upside. For those looking beyond the obvious, Port Road is the each-way punt at a workable price, especially with three places on offer in a seven-runner field. Silver Trumpet is the obvious danger if building on his reappearance, but the market leader still has the strongest claims.

16:15 – Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Handicap
Race Details: 7f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This is a fairly ordinary Class 6 on paper, but it’s not devoid of angles. Gladiadora brings the clearest recent profile after a solid run of figures and is the obvious one to beat, though short enough in a race where a few lurk on workable marks. Twirler and Dayman both have bits of form that make them interesting from handy draws, while Francisco arrives in decent nick and should be competitive again if getting the race run to suit. Vitalline is another with a squeak off a light weight despite a wide stall. It’s the sort of race where tactical position over this Lingfield 7f could be decisive, and although the favourite has strong claims, this isn’t quite the penalty kick the market suggests.
Top Selections
1. Gladiadora – 6/4 with Bet365
Jockey: Liam Wright | Trainer: Charlie Clover | Form: 12-412 | Rating: 78 | Topspeed: 57
Gladiadora is hard to oppose in a race of this depth. Her recent figures are the most persuasive in the field and that latest second suggests she remains in excellent order. She’s running consistently off a mark of 78 and, unlike plenty of these, arrives without needing a leap of faith. Stall 7 is no gift, but she looks the one with the fewest questions to answer and Charlie Clover’s mare is clearly thriving. At 6/4 she isn’t screaming value in a competitive handicap, but she does set the standard and should take plenty of beating if reproducing her latest effort. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. Twirler – 15/2 with Bet365
Jockey: Paddy Bradley | Trainer: Michael Attwater | Form: 231377 | Rating: 76 | Topspeed: 69
Twirler makes plenty of each-way appeal at the prices. The recent form figures don’t look especially sexy at first glance, but he was in good heart earlier in the campaign and his Topspeed of 69 is one of the better numbers on offer here. Drawn in 3, he should get a smoother passage than some of the wider rivals, and Paddy Bradley around Lingfield is no negative in this sort of race. He does need to bounce back from a couple of lesser efforts, but this grade is well within range and 15/2 looks fair enough for a horse with enough pace and track position to get involved. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Gladiadora is the win play because she brings the most reliable recent form and looks the solid option in a weakish Class 6. Twirler is the each-way punt, with his draw and better speed figure giving him a decent shot at making the frame. Dayman and Francisco are the obvious dangers if the favourite underperforms, while Vitalline is not without place claims at a price.

Race Details: 7f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This looks a solid enough 3yo handicap for the grade, with a few arriving on the up and not much room for passengers. Storm Point and Caviar Cowboy dominate the early betting for obvious reasons: the former got off the mark on his return and still looks capable of going on again, while the latter has finished runner-up on both starts since his debut and brings the strongest profile of the obvious contenders. Tactical Blitz is another with a workable shape to his form, and Mighty Vega comes here race-fit with a useful Topspeed figure, so this is no gimme for the market leaders. Draw and track position could matter around Lingfield, but in truth this feels more about which of these progressive 3yos finds a little extra now handicapping starts to bite.
Top Selections
1. Storm Point – 11/4 with Bet365
Jockey: Kieran Shoemark | Trainer: Ed Walker | Form: 954-1 | Rating: 80 | Topspeed: 55
He looks the percentage call. Storm Point returned from a break to win last time and did it in the manner of a colt who had sharpened up physically over the winter. That was only his fourth start, so there should still be a bit of upside from an opening mark of 80, and Ed Walker’s yard is well capable of placing one to follow up quickly. Kieran Shoemark is a positive booking for a horse who should get a sensible stalking trip from stall 7. At 11/4 he is no giveaway, but he is the one with the most obvious scope to rate higher than this grade in the near future. Bet: WIN
Bet: WIN
2. Mighty Vega – 9/1 with Betfair
Jockey: Mikkel Mortensen | Trainer: Scott Dixon | Form: 552182 | Rating: 84 | Topspeed: 78
Mighty Vega appeals as the each-way play because he is battle-hardened, arrives in form, and his figures stack up well in this field. That Topspeed mark of 78 is the best on offer here, and his recent 1-2 sequence says he is thriving rather than treading water. He is not as unexposed as Storm Point or Caviar Cowboy, but in a race where several still have questions to answer on their first outing of the campaign, there is something to be said for a colt who keeps turning up and running his race. From stall 8 he should be able to slot in, and 9/1 looks fair for a horse with solid place credentials and a live winning chance. Bet: EACH-WAY
Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Storm Point is the straight win bet because he looks progressive and his comeback success hinted there is more to come. Mighty Vega makes more appeal than the shorter-priced alternatives as an each-way punt at 9/1, especially with three places on offer. The main danger is Caviar Cowboy, who has a very obvious profile for this, while Tactical Blitz also commands respect from a good draw.

17:20 – Download The At The Races App Handicap (GBBPlus Race)
Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 4 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat
This looks a properly competitive little staying handicap rather than a penalty kick. Son Of Man arrives on the back of a win and is the obvious one to beat, while Wonder has been knocking hard on the door and sets a solid standard on recent all-weather form. Way Of Life is another in form, though he may not get much rope from the handicapper now, and Skibo is the interesting one lurking on his reappearance off a light weight for Ralph Beckett. Adjuvant has bits of form that put him in the argument too, but he is not the easiest to catch right. In a field of eight, tactical positioning round Lingfield will matter, and I suspect it will be decided by which of the principals settles best and gets first run turning in.
Top Selections
1. Son Of Man – 11/4 with Bet365
Jockey: Connor Planas | Trainer: Jim Boyle | Form: 2-3351 | Rating: 99 | Topspeed: 85
He makes plenty of appeal after getting his head back in front last time and, crucially, he did it with his recent consistency already well established. That 2-3351 line tells the story of a horse holding his form in good company before finally cashing in, and a mark of 99 still looks workable judged on the way he has been running. Connor Planas knows him well and Jim Boyle’s team are adept at placing this type in the right race. Around Lingfield over this trip, a straightforward, race-fit stayer is no bad thing, and at 11/4 he is hard to oppose rather than excitingly priced. Bet: WIN
2. Skibo – 11/2 with Bet365
Jockey: Hector Crouch | Trainer: Ralph Beckett | Form: 3/723- | Rating: 97 | Topspeed:
Skibo is the one who appeals as the value play if you want something against the obvious pair. We have not seen him since last season, so there is an element of trust involved, but his old form reads well enough in the context of this race and an opening mark of 97 does not look harsh. He gets in here with just 126, has a good draw in stall 2, and Hector Crouch is exactly the sort you want on a horse likely to need a smooth, patient ride around this track. At 11/2, he looks a very fair each-way punt if returning ready enough to do himself justice. Bet: EACH-WAY
Betting Strategy
Keep it simple: Son Of Man is the win bet because he brings the strongest recent profile and looks the safest option in the field. For an each-way alternative, Skibo makes plenty of appeal off a low weight and could easily be better than this mark. Wonder is the obvious danger after a string of good runs, while Way Of Life is respected from stall 1.
