14:20 – Follow @attheraces On X Restricted Novice Stakes (For horses In Bands B, C And D) (GBB Race)

Race Details: 6f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This is the sort of early-season 2yo novice that won’t take much winning, but it’s still a race with a bit of depth. Seathegulls heads the market despite only managing seventh on debut, which tells you connections are expected to find plenty of improvement, while El Lambo already sets the best piece of published form with a fair sixth and a 71 rating. Greek Street has experience too, though he’ll need to step forward markedly. The rest are debutants, and that always brings a layer of guesswork, especially with yards like Archie Watson, Richard Hughes and Charlie Johnston represented. On balance, this looks more informative than strong, and the one with solid racecourse evidence is the obvious starting point.

Top Selections

1. El Lambo – 15/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Jason Watson | Trainer: Charles Hills | Form: 6 | Rating: 71 | Topspeed:

El Lambo appeals as the sensible win play because he has already shown enough to suggest this level is well within reach. A 71 rating stands out in this field and, in a race packed with unknown quantities, that bit of substance matters. Charles Hills knows how to place a youngster and Jason Watson is a solid booking round here, while the handy draw in stall 2 should help him travel and hold a position over this sharp 6f. At 15/2 he doesn’t need to be a world-beater, just a colt who knows more than most of these, and that looks a perfectly fair angle into the race. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Dakota Brave – 9/1 with Bet365

Jockey: David Probert | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: | Rating: | Topspeed:

For an each-way play, Dakota Brave makes plenty of appeal from stall 1 for a yard that is never shy about getting juveniles out early. Charlie Johnston’s runners are usually fit and know their job, and David Probert is a positive jockey to have on side at Lingfield, especially from an inside draw over 6f. In a race where several rivals have to prove they’re ready first time and the market leader was beaten a fair way on debut, 9/1 looks a workable price for a colt who could easily be sharp enough to make the frame. He’s the type to outrun market expectations if breaking on terms. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

El Lambo is the win bet on the strength of the best existing form and a rating that gives him a clear edge on paper. Dakota Brave is the each-way option at a price, with the draw and stable angle both positives. Seathegulls is the obvious danger if improving as expected, while any strong move for Alpe D’Huez would be worth noting.

14:55 – 13th Barry Gurr Memorial Handicap (Div I)

Race Details: 6f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a fairly typical Lingfield sprint handicap at the basement level: tightly packed on official figures, plenty with something to prove, and not many arriving with rock-solid win credentials. Poetic Jack sets the standard on recent consistency and has the draw to get involved again, while Southbank has been knocking on the door and should be thereabouts if the race is run to suit. Walking On Clouds and Manhattan Chute are not without interest either, but both come with a bit more baggage attached. In truth, this is more of a tricky puzzle than a strong contest, and in races like this I’d rather side with runners who are at least holding their form together and can travel kindly over this sharp 6f.

Top Selections

1. Poetic Jack – 7/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Hollie Doyle | Trainer: Robert Cowell | Form: 3-2544 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 58

Poetic Jack looks the most solid option in a race where solidity counts for plenty. He has been running well without getting his head in front, but those recent efforts suggest he’s holding his level and he doesn’t need to improve much to take this. A mark of 65 looks workable, stall 4 is handy enough, and Hollie Doyle is exactly the sort you want in a messy sprint around here. He’s not thrown in, but unlike plenty of these he isn’t arriving in a fog of poor form. At 7/2 with Bet365, he makes plenty of appeal as the percentage call. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Southbank – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: William Carson | Trainer: Chris Gordon | Form: 4-4234 | Rating: 66 | Topspeed: 61

Southbank is hardly hiding from the assessor, but he has been running as though another race of this nature is well within range. The recent string of placed efforts and respectable fourths tells you he is competitive from this mark, and his Topspeed figure of 61 stacks up perfectly well for a Class 6 like this. He’s the type who tends to give you a run for your money, which is exactly what you want for an each-way punt in a 12-runner handicap with four places on offer. At 9/2 with Bet365, he’s not a massive price, but he still looks one of the more trustworthy options. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Poetic Jack is the win bet because he brings the cleanest recent profile and looks the least risky proposition in a weak sprint. Southbank is the each-way play, as he keeps running to a similar level and should be in the mix again. The main danger is Walking On Clouds, who is respected by the market, while Manhattan Chute is capable if bouncing back.

15:30 – 13th Barry Gurr Memorial Handicap (Div II)

Race Details: 6f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a very ordinary Class 6 sprint, but that does not make it simple. Plenty arrive with patchy profiles and several of these have been taking turns running respectably without looking especially well treated. Porfin brings the best rating in the field and has been knocking on the door often enough, while Alashos has the sort of consistent AW handicap form that usually keeps him in the argument at this level. Comedian Leader and Big Time Rascal are obvious market players, though neither looks bombproof, and the low-drawn pair Mintana and Lion Ring are capable of outrunning bigger prices. In truth, this looks a tricky little puzzle rather than a race packed with quality, and track position could easily prove decisive.

Top Selections

1. Porfin – 11/2 with Betfair

Jockey: Connor Planas | Trainer: Phil McEntee | Form: 235304 | Rating: 69 | Topspeed: 54

Porfin is not exactly hiding from the assessor, but he is the one in here with the most solid recent handicap credentials. His form figures suggest a veteran still operating well enough in this grade, and a mark of 69 is workable in a race lacking much depth. Stall 4 looks perfectly fine around here, and Connor Planas knows him well enough to keep him in the right spot. He does not win out of turn, which is the obvious caveat, but he regularly gives himself a chance and this is hardly a deep sprint. At 11/2, he makes plenty of appeal as the percentage call. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Alashos – 13/2 with Bet365

Jockey: William Carson | Trainer: Chris Gordon | Form: 4-5448 | Rating: 65 | Topspeed: 59

Alashos has not managed to get his head in front lately, but he has been running well enough in similar company to think he can make the frame again. His topspeed figure of 59 is one of the better numbers on offer here, and that matters in a race where many are exposed and modest. The draw in 10 is not ideal, so William Carson will need to be sharp from the gates, but if he can slot in without wasting ground this gelding has the raw form to get involved. At 13/2 with Bet365, he looks the right sort for an each-way punt in a race full of unreliable types.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it straightforward: Porfin is the win bet because he brings the strongest recent body of work and should be competitive again in this weak grade. Alashos is the each-way alternative at a fair enough price, with his speed figures giving him a solid place chance. The main dangers look to be Comedian Leader and Big Time Rascal, while Mintana is not entirely dismissed from a handy low draw.

16:05 – Follow @attheraces On Instagram Handicap

Race Details: 5f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This is only a five-runner sprint, but it is not a bad little contest for the grade. Tuscan Point sets the standard on official figures alongside Wedgewood and arrives with the most solid recent profile, while Desdemona has been thriving for Michael Attwater and is drawn well enough to make life awkward for the favourite. Honour Your Dreams is another from the Attwater yard and is not entirely dismissed after a fair second last time, but he does look a touch more exposed. She Went Whoosh has a useful Topspeed figure on the page but recent form has gone the wrong way. In a race lacking much depth, tactical speed and track position should matter plenty, and Tuscan Point looks the one with the fewest questions to answer.

Top Selections

1. Tuscan Point – 1/1 with Paddy Power

Jockey: Pat Cosgrave | Trainer: Adam Kirby | Form: 3-1252 | Rating: 77 | Topspeed: 67

Tuscan Point is hard to oppose in a race of this nature. He has been admirably consistent, the recent form figures of 3-1252 reading well in the context of a modest Class 6, and his mark of 77 is joint-highest in the field for a reason. There is enough pace on show over this sharp 5f to think he should get the race run to suit, and Pat Cosgrave is the sort to keep things uncomplicated from a handy draw. At evens he is no giveaway, but he brings the strongest current profile, a solid Topspeed figure and fewer doubts than his rivals. In a small field, that counts for plenty. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple in a five-runner race: Tuscan Point is the win bet and the only selection. Each-way punting makes little appeal with just two places on offer and a short field. Desdemona looks the obvious danger if able to boss matters from stall 1, while Wedgewood is respected after getting his head back in front, but the percentage call is with the favourite.

16:35 – Free Bets On attheraces.com Fillies’ Handicap

Race Details: 1m 2f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This looks a competitive little fillies’ handicap rather than a deep one, with the three-year-olds likely to have a big say against exposed older mares. Ammoony heads the market after shaping with plenty of promise when second on handicap debut, while Bergamo Gold arrives in the best recent form and already knows how to get her head in front. Willow Wood is less exposed than most and could easily step forward now sent into handicap company from a handy inside stall. Of the older brigade, Ghost Story is probably the most solid, but she may not have much in hand off 74, while Mythical Bird and Flightofthephoenix need to find a bit more than they’ve shown lately. Tricky enough, but the younger legs look the place to start.

Top Selections

1. Ammoony – 11/4 with Betfair

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: Tom Clover | Form: 54-2 | Rating: 77 | Topspeed: 50

Ammoony looks the most likely winner on the back of that recent second, her first run in a handicap, where she suggested this sort of mark was well within range. As a three-year-old getting weight from the older fillies, she has an obvious edge if progressing again over this 1m2f, and that feels highly likely given she’s only had three starts. Luke Morris is a good booking around Lingfield and this draw in eight is manageable if she breaks cleanly and gets slotted in. Available at 11/4, she is hardly a hidden one, but she’s still the runner with the strongest upside in the field. Bet: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Bergamo Gold – 9/2 with Bet365

Jockey: David Probert | Trainer: Charlie Johnston | Form: 521132 | Rating: 73 | Topspeed: 51

Bergamo Gold makes plenty of each-way appeal because she’s already done more on the track than some of these lightly raced types and arrives in rock-solid nick. That form string tells its own story: she’s been running consistently well, won recently, and backed it up with another good second last time. A mark of 73 still looks fair enough, and David Probert is the sort you want aboard at Lingfield, especially on a filly who can hold a position and keep finding. At 9/2 with three places on offer, she looks the value alternative to the favourite and is exactly the type to give you a run for your money. Bet: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it simple: Ammoony is the win play, with her handicap debut second suggesting she’s the one with more to come. Bergamo Gold is the sensible each-way punt at a backable price given her consistent recent profile. Willow Wood is the obvious danger if improving for handicaps, while Ghost Story looks the pick of the older fillies if the younger ones underperform.

17:07 – Newsteam Group Handicap

Race Details: 1m | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a proper low-grade mile handicap where plenty can be given a squeak, but not many arrive without a question attached. Super Hit, Antiquity and Mr Fustic dominate the front end of the market for obvious reasons, while Play Me has the profile of one who could go well fresh after ending last year in decent nick. Mr Fustic comes here off a win and is well treated at the weights for a horse now rated 79, while Super Hit has been knocking on the door without quite getting his head in front. Draws and track position could matter, with several of the more interesting runners housed in middle berths. It is not a deep race for the grade, but it is a slightly tricky puzzle rather than a banker’s heat.

Top Selections

1. Mr Fustic – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Finley Marsh | Trainer: Andi Brown | Form: 796-31 | Rating: 79 | Topspeed: 70

Mr Fustic makes plenty of appeal in a race where a lot of these are taking turns to disappoint. He got back on track when winning last time and that effort is backed up by the best Topspeed figure in the field, which matters in this grade because it shows he still retains enough engine despite being an eight-year-old. Drawn 7, he should be able to get a handy enough position without burning petrol early, and Finley Marsh is a solid booking for this sort of assignment. At 11/2 with Bet365, he looks a fair rather than flashy price, but he has the strongest recent winning case in the line-up. Bet type: this is the WIN angle.

Bet: WIN

2. Play Me – 6/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Donagh Murphy | Trainer: Jim Boyle | Form: 13242- | Rating: 73 | Topspeed:

Play Me is the one who makes most each-way sense because his profile is quietly solid and he has fewer miles on the clock than some of these exposed types. His closing 2025 figures of 13242 suggest he was running to a reliable level in similar company, and stall 4 is exactly where you want to be in a race that could get messy from wider out. Jim Boyle has three in here, but this one looks the most persuasive on consistency alone. He does return from a break, so there is a slight fitness question, yet 6/1 with four places on offer feels workable for a horse who should be involved if ready enough. Bet type: this is the EACH-WAY punt.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Mr Fustic is the win bet after that recent success and on the strength of his 70 Topspeed figure, which stands out in this company. Play Me is the each-way option from a good draw, especially with four places available. Super Hit is the obvious danger if bouncing back from a lesser run, while Antiquity is another with claims in a race where the market principals are hard to split.

17:40 – Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Handicap

Race Details: 7f | Class 5 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This is a tight little 0-85 in all but name and, for a Class 5, it is not short of plausible cases. Havana Touch arrives on the back of a win and is obvious enough despite a rise, while Bella Bisbee also got her head back in front last time and remains on the upgrade judged on recent efforts. Spirit Lead Me has become expensive to follow but is better than his latest figures, and Daisy Roots should come on for her reappearance. There is not much between plenty of them on official ratings, so race position and how strongly they travel around Lingfield’s turns could prove decisive. It looks a tricky puzzle rather than a race to get bullish in, but a couple do appeal at the prices.

Top Selections

1. Havana Touch – 5/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: John Butler | Form: 9-8921 | Rating: 80 | Topspeed: 56

Havana Touch is hardly bombproof, but he comes here in the right nick and there was something solid about the way he built towards that latest success. The form figures show a horse finding his level again, and a mark of 80 still looks workable if he can string the effort together. Luke Morris is the sort you want around here on a straightforward, pace-conscious ride, and stall 5 gives him options rather than excuses. In a race where several arrive with questions attached, he is one of the few who comes in with momentum. Available at 5/1, he makes plenty of appeal as the percentage call.

Bet: WIN

2. Daisy Roots – 8/1 with Betfair

Jockey: Pat Cosgrave | Trainer: Jim Boyle | Form: 5152-4 | Rating: 82 | Topspeed: 77

Daisy Roots makes more each-way appeal than most because her profile is reliable and her reappearance fourth suggested she has retained plenty of ability. That was her first run since finishing last season with a win and a second, and she has the sort of back-form that stacks up well enough in this company. Her Topspeed figure of 77 is one of the better numbers on offer here, and from stall 6 she should get a fair tow into things before Cosgrave asks her to pick up late. At 8/1, she looks overpriced in a race full of inconsistent types.

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Havana Touch is the win play at around 5/1 because he arrives here in winning form and looks the one most likely to get a clean run through the race. Daisy Roots is the each-way punt at 8/1, with her comeback run hinting she is ready to strike. The obvious dangers are Bella Bisbee, who is thriving, and Spirit Lead Me if Richard Hughes has him back on song.

18:10 – Download The At The Races App Handicap

Race Details: 1m 4f | Class 6 | Going: Standard (Polytrack) | | flat

This looks a fairly ordinary Class 6 on paper, but it is still a race with a bit of shape to it. Divot sets the standard after a solid return when second and is the obvious starting point from stall 1, while Upepo, Imperial Cult and Skimming Along all have bits of form that make them relevant in a contest lacking much depth. Sir Patchy is another with a chance if fit enough after the break, especially off a light weight, while Lunar Power and The Colorist need to find more than they’ve shown recently. With just nine declared and one non-runner in the book, it should come down to who gets the smoothest trip rather than any hidden class angle. Tricky enough beneath the favourite, but not impossible to solve.

Top Selections

1. Divot – 2/1 with Bet365

Jockey: Luke Morris | Trainer: William Knight | Form: 4723-2 | Rating: 76 | Topspeed: 65

Divot is the one they all have to beat. He returned from a break with a good second, which suggested this 4yo is ready to capitalise now he is back in the groove, and his profile is much less exposed than plenty of these older handicappers. An opening draw in stall 1 is a plus around Lingfield if Luke Morris can hold a handy position, and his mark of 76 looks workable judged on the consistency of his recent figures. At 2/1 he is no giveaway in a race of this nature, but he still makes plenty of appeal because he brings the most convincing recent form and looks the likely improver in the field. Bet type: WIN

Bet: WIN

2. Sir Patchy – 11/2 with Bet365

Jockey: Kieran O’Neill | Trainer: Pat Phelan | Form: /2385- | Rating: 73 | Topspeed: 70

Sir Patchy makes more each-way appeal than most of the opposition. He has the best Topspeed figure in the line-up, is attractively treated off 73, and his low weight gives him a fighting chance if this turns tactical rather than searching. The wide draw is not ideal over this trip at Lingfield, but Kieran O’Neill knows how to nurse one into the race here and he does not need to improve much to hit the frame in a modest heat. At 11/2, he looks the value alternative to the favourite, especially with several rivals either returning from a break or looking thoroughly exposed at the level. Bet type: EACH-WAY

Bet: EACH-WAY

Betting Strategy

Keep it straightforward: Divot is the win bet because he arrives in the best recent form and still has scope to do better. Sir Patchy is the each-way punt at a fair enough price, with his light weight and solid speed figure making him interesting. Upepo and Imperial Cult are the obvious dangers if reproducing their better efforts, while Skimming Along is another to note if ready after the absence.
