Lingfield Racing Tips (Tuesday 2 December 2025)

A bumper nine-race card gets under way at 11.30am at Lingfield Park and Andrew has three selections across the fixture.

12.30 Lingfield – Smith (0.5pt e/w – 11/2 bet365) – & The Craftymaster (0.5pt e/w – 40/1 bet365)

Smith is well into the veteran phase of his career but his 20-1 fourth of ten in a similar course and distance handicap 28 days ago suggested that there are more races in him. The Lydia Ricahrds-trained nine-year-old set out to make all the running that day, tactics hard to pull off in handicaps over this course and distance, especially at this time of year when the inside rail rides ‘dead’. He stayed in contention for longer than expected, only losing out on third place close home and finishing two and a half lengths behind the winner, Sapphire Rocco (re-opposes today), who challenged very wide. He rarely shows much away from Lingfield but has won seven of his 20 starts here over the 2m trip for a profit of £14.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. When returned to the track within 45 days of his latest start his 2m Lingfield all-weather record improves to seven from 16 (+£18.50), improving again to seven from eight (+£26.50) when returned at an SP of 9-1 or shorter. There’s always the chance that he’ll end up on the rail again but he’s still worth a small interest.

I also want to side with The Craftymaster, whose all-weather record in the December to January period stands at 2111111217452 (7-13) for a profit of £8.90 to a £1 level stake at SP. In Class 6 company only, his record improves to 211112 (4-6). The 1m4f trip was no help to Tony Carroll’s five-year-old last time where he beat only one home in Class 5 company at odds of 33-1. The step back up to 2m, drop in grade and return to Lingfield (he’s won twice here) all points towards a big effort this afternoon.

12:30 Midnite Aint Your Grandads Bookie Handicap

3.30 Lingfield – Alafhdal (1pt win – 3/1 bet365)

It’s easy to dismiss the claims of Alfadhal in this 5f handicap as Phil McEntee’s seven-year-old has failed to score from several attempts on Lingfield’s Polytrack. However, he has clocked some useful speed figure over course and distance in a higher grade than today’s Class 6 level and he’s worth a bet. He typically runs well at this time of year, recording form figures in the December-January period of 1111247319012 (6-13) for a profit of £17.33 to a £1 level stake at SP. When returned to then track within 14 days of his latest start those figures becomes 11124112 (5-8) for a profit of £17.63. His stall 9 draw is higher than ideal but the pacesetters in stalls 3 and 4 could take each other on and set it up for a stalker out wide.

Southwell Racing Tips (Tuesday 2 December 2025)

Some decent jumping action takes place during Southwell’s six-race card and Andrew’s best bet comes in the 12.52pm race.

12.52 Southwell – Bowenspark (1pt win – 9/1 bet365)

Top weights have a poor recent record over the shorter trips (2m-2m4f) in handicap chases at Bangor, with just six wins from 89 runners since the beginning of 2021 for a loss of £64.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 16.17, A/E = 0.37), so I’m prepared to forgive Bowenspark his chase debut defeat (pulled up) when lumping 12 stone at that venue on October 27th. He jumped poorly in first-time cheekpieces that day (replacing his usual visor) and might do better now that all headgear is left off for the first time since his useful third behind Kamsinas and Long Draw in a Class 2 handicap hurdle at Aintree last term. His three career wins have come in November/December and it’s worth remembering that he was backed into favouritism at Bangor. Runners sent off as favourite under top weight in Bangor handicap chases over 2m-2m4f have a good record at the next time of asking, landing 28 of their 103 starts this century for a profit of £53.73 (expected winners = 19.65, A/E = 1.42).
