The first four home in the 7f 0-60 handicap won by Naoi at Leopardstown on August 20th were described as “midfield”, “towards rear”, “midfield” and “midfield”, while the runners in fifth, seventh and eighth were also ridden patiently. Sixth home Brains (“led, headed but prominent after 1f, led again over 1f out”) caught the eye in emerging best of those ridden prominently and he built on that with a 13-2 third of ten at Laytown on his next outing where he was drawn out wide. The veteran hasn’t won over this 7f trip for a while but is 7lb lower than his last winning mark and hold each-way claims.
