It’s the final Grade 1 before Christmas on Saturday, as the Long Walk Hurdle attracts a quality field for the 3m 102y contest to Ascot. Off at 2.25pm, it’s a race that has always provided some notable clues to the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, and the 2025 renewal should prove no different.
We take a look at the latest Long Walk Hurdle odds, racecard, trends and pick out our selection for the big race this weekend.
2025 Long Walk Hurdle Racecard
Owner JP McManus will have a huge say on how the 2025 Long Walk Hurdle goes as he will unleash two well-fancied runners in the shape of Honesty Policy and Impose Toi, who both sit prominently in the latest betting. A Grade 1 winner of the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree back in April, the former then chased home Jasmin De Vaux at Punchestown on his last outing. He makes his first start of the season here, unlike Impose Toi, who won a handicap hurdle impressively before going on to win the Long Distance Hurdle and is a stayer on the up. Fergal O’Brien’s Crambo has won the last two renewals of this event and is looking for a hat-trick and is a notable contender, while Strong Leader has some very smart form in the book during his career, but was beaten by Impose Toi last time out at Newbury. Potters Charm, Doddiethegreat and Jet Blue are another trio that add yet more depth to the race.

Strong LeaderLong Walk Hurdle Trends
Having first been run in 1965, the Long Walk Hurdle has seen some of the finest staying hurdlers in recent times taste victory and the next crop of stars will be looking to etch their name on the illustrious roll of honour. For help in trying to find the winner, we’ve picked out some of the key trends and stats to follow when picking your selection for the race.

Long Walk Hurdle Tips
The green and gold of JP McManus should feature prominently here, but while Honesty Policy could prove to be the best of these he is having his first start of the campaign, and is worth taking on. Impose Toi has been in fine form has to make the first three home, but Potters Charm could cause a minor upset, if he can recapture his best form. A Grade 1 winner as a novice, he only finished third in the Grade 2 Ascot Hurdle last time out, but the step up to three miles could see him flourish and he can get the better of Impose Toi, with two-times winner Crambo back in third.
