Market Rasen & Windsor Racing Tips - Andrew Mount's Best Bets for Friday 16 January

It’s a day one of the Berkshire Winter Million Festival at Windsor on Friday 16 January, whilst Market Rasen also host a quality National Hunt card, with some of the action live on ITV Racing.

Our top tipster Andrew Mount looks to continue his excellent recent form and picks out three bets for the action over the sticks.

Market Rasen Racing Tips (Friday 16 January 2026)

Seven races begin at Market Rasen at 12.18pm, but Andrew Mount waits until the 2.05pm contest, where he picks an intriguing Hughie Morrison-trained runner.

2.05 Market Rasen – Filanderer (1pt win – 9/2 generally)

This 2m5.5f veterans’ handicap chase deserves our close attention as the two runners at the head of the betting – Doyen Du Bar (up in trip) and Mahons Glory (jumps out to his left, not ideal for this right-handed track) could prove vulnerable. Filanderer was a winner on his racecourse debut on New Year’s Eve 2021, and his subsequent wins have also come when fresh – after breaks of 194, 160, 107 and 77 days. His full record over fences when fresh (after a break of at least six weeks) reads 5U1111 (4-6) for a profit of £13.33 to a £1 level stake at SP. He too has jumped out to his left on occasions but has won twice on right-handed tracks (today’s course and distance and Wincanton) and he should be fresh enough to do himself justice after 49 days off the track.

Windsor Racing Tips (Friday 16 January 2026)

Quality jumping action comes from Windsor, as they host the first of two days of action during the Winter Million Festival and Andrew has a brace of selections.

2.25 Windsor – Hollygrove Cha Cha (1pt win – 5/2 bet365, 9/4 generally)

Hollygrove Cha Cha was my selection at a big price for a graded race at Warwick’s cancelled meeting recently, as I had expected the return to a left-handed track to suit (she tends to jump out to her left, a trait that has been exaggerated since switched to fences). The Jamie Snowden-trained six-year-old has form figures in that direction of 111P (3-4), with the sole defeat at the Cheltenham festival. Windsor’s chase track was left-handed last season but was deemed too tight and has reverted to the old figure-of-eight configuration this term. However, with the majority of the fences on the left-handed sections of the track I’m going to take a chance that she’ll cope with it, especially given her record in today’s Class 2 company or lower stands at 11111 (5-5).

3.00 Windsor – Nemean Lion (1pt win – 2/1 William Hill)

Nemean Lion has form figures over hurdles for current trainer Kerry Lee of 12311521672111P3 (7-16) for a profit of £18.70 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 2.76, A/E = 2.54), including form figures of 1212211 (4-7) below Class 1 level (+£17.50). The nine-year-old ran a blinder when reappearing in the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth at Newcastle in late November, going down by just under two lengths, in a 40-1 third of five, and will come on for that. He won this race last year, despite the ground being faster than ideal, and has his conditions today.
