The second week of the Racing League takes place at Wolverhampton on Thursday night. Seeking out winners in the tricky handicaps is Matty Sutcliffe, who gives out four best bets across the evening’s card.
5:45 Wolverhampton – Racing League Race 8 Handicap (For horses In The Care Of Trainers Registered To Racing League) (Class 4) (3yo+ 0-80) – Coup De Force 8/1 1pt WIN
The prolific COUP DE FORCE has form figures of 4141211516 on the all-weather and the two times she’s finished out of the frame were at Kempton, so the return to Wolverhampton where her form reads 412 should see her in a better light particularly given the form she’s in, as her penultimate effort saw her record a career best RPR when staying on well to land a Salisbury Handicap.
Stall 13 makes life difficult, but she’s tactically uncomplicated and she looks better suited to these conditions than most.
6:15 Wolverhampton – Racing League Race 9 Handicap (For horses In The Care Of Trainers Registered To Racing League) (Class 4) (3yo 0-85) – Kamekist 10/1 1pt WIN
KAMEKIST’s record at Wolverhampton reads 2316, and the latest effort doesn’t read as poorly as it does on paper, as the winner bolted up five lengths and he suffered trouble in running.
His Chepstow defeat was blamed on the undulations of the track but prior to that he was a half a length third to Organ at Haydock when not staying the trip. The winner’s since climbed 12lbs in the weights having a further two handicaps which makes Kamekist a solid proposition off a mark of 72 back here after a month’s break with first time cheekpieces equipped.
6:45 Wolverhampton – Racing League Race 10 Handicap (In The Care Of Trainers Registered To Racing League) (GBBPlus) (Class 3) (3yo+ 0-90) – Chutzpal 11/2 1pt WIN
113-rated hurdler CHUTZPAL ran a career best RPR at the Curragh in a 12k sixteen runner handicap last time out, and given that was only his second run after a 191 day break it’s plausible to think he’ll be primed for this given the prize money on offer.
His form at Dundalk reads 2319760 and given his latest turf success came around the sharp left handed nature of Killarney (five lengths), Wolverhampton should suit along with the birth in stall three.
7:15 Wolverhampton – Racing League Race 11 Handicap (For horses In The Care Of Trainers Registered To Racing League) (Class 2) (3yo+) – Willem Twee 7/2 1pt WIN
WILLEM TWEE landed this last season from a 3lbs higher mark having previously shaped strongly in the Chipchase behind subsequent Betfair Sprint Cup winner Montassib, and all roads this season look to have lead back to this.
He was given two spins over seven furlongs early on in March, and was given little chance from rear on both occasions. His next two efforts came back over six furlongs, and on both occasions he was an eye-catcher, making headway at Newcastle before fading late on to be beaten four lengths, only finishing a length behind subsequent Chipchase winner Diligent Harry.
He was then an eye-catcher at Newcastle when a two lengths third to Ferrous, staying on well late on having been short of room throughout. This will surely have been the plan all season, and despite having to give weight away to most (bar Al Shabab Storm) this is a significantly weaker looking contest than what he’s raced in thus far this season.
