2:05 Haydock – Ambassador Cruise Line Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-100) – Blue Storm 8/1 1pt WIN

Since joining Gemma Tutty from James Tate, BLUE STORM’s record second time up for the yard after a break reads 11, including landing this contest off a pound higher last season. The Blue Point colt progressed well last term, winning the three-year-old dash at Epsom prior to being beaten half a length when second in the Palace Of Holyrood House Stakes at Royal Ascot.

He was then beaten eight lengths after a 78-day break at Beverley, but bounced straight back to form here when pulling clear with Wiltshire in this contest a shade cosily. He was beaten a similar margin on his reappearance here when barely put into the race in rear, but the winner demolished the field by some four lengths so the bare form doesn’t look all that terrible, and this looks to have been the plan for Blue Storm who should get a good toe in to race from pace angles All Ways Glamorous and I’m Next to land back to back renewals of this race.

2:25 Newmarket – Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) (Class 1) (2yo) – Beautify 7/2 1.5pt WIN

Three of the last ten winners (including the last two) of the Cheveley Park Stakes had contested the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes on their last outing and BEAUTIFY fared well in what looked a strong renewal of that race last time out when second to stablemate Precise.

The daughter of Wootton Bassett travelled markedly stronger than the rest throughout the contest with Dylan Browne McMonagle only asking his filly for an effort at the furlong pole before being collared late on by Prestige Stakes winner Precise. The 113 rated Venetian Sun was a length back in third who was seeking a five times after landing the Prix Morny last time out, and the 110 rated Composing was back in fourth who’d previously won her last three starts, so the form does stack up well.

I don’t think she quite stayed the seven furlongs all that well there, so this drop back to six looks sure to suit. She debuted over six at the Curragh when a two length second to Balantina in May who franked that form when third to Venetian Sun in the Albany, and she backed that up when making all to beat the then unbeaten Lady Iman, who franked that form when landing the Molecomb next time out.

The draw in stall one doesn’t look particularly favourable given recent winners have generally come from middle to higher, but she’s an uncomplicated filly who won’t mind doing her own thing on the outside flank under Tom Marquand, who I’d imagine will attempt to make all on her.

3:00 Newmarket – Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes (Group 1) (Colts) (Class 1) (2yo) – Hilitany 10/1 1pt EW 3 places

Prix Morny form has often stacked up well in the Middle Park so Wise Approach has to be strongly considered in here after his third in Deauville, but outside of the Godolphin colt this doesn’t look an overly competitive renewal of this prestigious event and HILITANY can be chanced to serve it up to the warm favourite.

He’s the most expensive son of first season sire Ubettabelieveit to date, and very nearly made a winning debut at Ffos Las in July when a three quarter length second, staying on well in the manner of one requiring a step up in trip.

The step up to six furlongs evidently unlocked further improvement when a ready three length winner at Windsor, easily dispatching a subsequent winner for William Haggas in second. Connections opted to keep him in novice company and run him under a penalty next time out back at Windsor, and he bolted up with ease by five lengths to the good under largely hands and heels riding.

They skipped the Mill Reef due to time constraints and better ground here which looks the correct move, and while he does have plenty to find on form and figures with most of these, visually he’s looked as impressive as any in his latest two starts and his prominent style of racing can bode well in this race.

3:15 Haydock – Oddschecker Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-105) – Intrusively 16/1 1pt EW 3 places

Prior to being pulled out on account of soft ground at Doncaster, I wrote this about Intrusively:

“Territories colt INTRUSIVELY only has a Nottingham maiden win to his name at 1/8F, but that came after a length third in the G2 Richmond Stakes and before a three lengths fifth in the valuable sales race at this meeting last season.”

He reappeared this season in a 0-105 at Newcastle when denied a run throughout, finishing on the bridle though only beaten three lengths in a race which has thrown up some strong form, not least Pocklington who just failed to land a six furlong handicap at the Ebor meeting. He then stepped up in trip at Haydock when beaten three lengths into fifth, a length ahead of the subsequent Golden Mile winner Rhoscolyn.

Intrusively was way out of his depth in the Lennox at Goodwood when always behind in rear, though he got back on track at Newcastle in a Racing League contest when unfavourably posted on the outside flank, only beaten two lengths.”

The ground looks set to dry up at Haydock in the next couple days which should see Intrusively take his chance here, and it’s only a matter of time until he gets his head back in front. The handicapper has dropped him 9lbs in four runs this season, and his pedigree (related to multiple winners at/beyond a mile) backs up the visual suspicion that a step up in trip will suit, as should the return to Haydock where the form of his three length fifth here in July has worked out well.

3:40 Newmarket – bet365 Cambridgeshire (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+) – Real Gain 12/1 1pt EW 6 places

Profitable gelding REAL GAIN bolted up some five lengths at this meeting over C&D two years ago and this race will always have been in the back of connections’ mind since. Things haven’t panned out for him subsequently and he’s only been seen five times since, beaten nine lengths in the Spring Cup on seasonal debut last season, twenty one lengths in the Royal Hunt Cunt then five lengths in the Chesterfield Cup.

The handicapper has relented, and he made a solid reappearance this season when a two length second in the Golden Mile from a 367 day layoff. He raced second throughout there and struck the front a furlong out, before just weakening late on to be collared by Goodwood specialist Rhoscolyn and the consistent Ebt’s Guard.

The Golden Mile form has worked out well with the second going in next time out, the fifth taking a handicap at the Ebor festival next time out and the sixth winning at Goodwood. It’s plausible to suggest he needed that outing there and this will always have been the race connections will peak him for, and it would be a surprise to see him not go close here if able to back up that promising reappearance.
