Midlands Grand National tips, odds, racecard & trends: Est is best in marathon handicap

The Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter remains in its traditional slot the day after Cheltenham. It gives punters a hugely competitive contest to focus on after the Prestbury Park festivities have concluded.

GG tipster Joe Napier has analysed this year’s field, providing our insight and tips in the contest below.

2026 Midlands Grand National Runners

Irish raiders My Immortal and J’Arrive De L’Est ensure the Midlands National has a Prestbury Cup feel to it. Barry Connell’s charge won the Punchestown Grand National Trial comfortably last time out and could still have untapped marathon potential at the age of ten. However, J’Arrive De L’Est is more eyecatching, running very well over the cross country course twice at Cheltenham. A mark of 126 surely underestimates him at some point.

Git Maker is a former Cheltenham Festival runner-up and is regaining form as a stayer. Deafening Silence is just discovering his mojo in marathon races and Dan Skelton may still have him well-handicapped after a successful week at Cheltenham.

Collector’s Item is worth monitoring further down the betting. He is a very capable stayer on his day, as is Neo King. He came from the clouds to win at Windsor and ran well enough on ground quicker than ideal at Haydock last time out.

Top-weight Rock My Way has form from last season that could still make him a player, while Aworkinprogress could easily have more to come and has been winning at a tremendous strike rate. Nick Gifford’s runner shapes as though no distance will be too far for him.

Well in advance of the race, Dave Young collated all of the key trends for the Midlands National here, with a summary below.

2026 Midlands Grand National Tips

Irish raider J’Arrive De L’Est may give himself plenty to do with his jumping. However, his form in cross country races against the best in that sphere is enough to suggest he is well-handicapped for this assignment. The seven-year-old shapes as though the further he goes, the better. Aworkinprogress remains one, but is a serial winner and could have more left in the tank up 5lb. Neo King is another for whom a marathon trip is worth exploring again.
