A brace of Wolverhampton victories early in the year for MOTHER JONES (Brighton, 5.20) now seem a very long time ago and Richard Hughes is drafted in to stop the rot.
To be fair, the filly has hardly run a bad race since but just seems to find one or two too good, including at Brighton back in May and again 10 days ago. Looking slightly reluctant, she had Stevie Donohue working hard from 2f out and eventually decided to participate and subsequently finished well.
That was a very competitive fillies’ handicap but Monday’s affair looks weaker and my figures have Mother Jones clear.
Musselburgh hosts my other two top ratings, with LADY POPPY (Musselburgh, 4.10) and HAWDYERWHEESHT (Musselburgh, 5.40) looking good on a busy eight-race card. George Moore’s two-year-old found a valuable York race a bridge too far but drops back a level and can shade a warm nursery. Hawdyerwheesht has let punters down a few times when well backed but looked a shade unlucky when not getting a clear run last time. His losing sequence has hit 18 but the luck can change.
