The Ayr Gold Cup is the feature race in the UK on Saturday, with the Scottish track hosting a hugely competitive card in all. There is also racing live on ITV from Newbury.

Newbury Racing Tips (Saturday 19 September 2026)
A pair of Group races take place at Newbury on Saturday, with one of those the opening Group 3 World Trophy, in which Matty has an outside fancy.
13:02 Newbury – Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+) – Azure Angel 40/1 1pt EW 3 places
I’ve long been of the opinion that Azure Angel has the ability to win a contest of this nature, and she looks wildly overpriced as the outsider in here.
She overcame adversity to take a fillies listed contest at Bath earlier this year, rallying late having travelled strongly throughout on the wide outside. While that form didn’t immediately work out, she proved it was no fluke when a length fifth in the Achilles Stakes returning from a 55 day break next time out.
That form is of particular interest, as she split Redorange and Starlust there, who are the top two in the market here. Again, she more than acquitted herself well when beaten three lengths in the King Charles III Stakes, finishing ahead of multiple rivals in here. She was held on to too long that day, and perhaps would’ve been closer had she not been ridden so patiently.
She again justified her connections’ ambitious placing of her when beaten a length at York in the Listed City Walls Stakes, weakening late after suffering for room having initially travelled strongly into contention. Redorange was a length ahead of her there to take the contest, with Starlust only a neck ahead in front in fourth.
That form has worked out exceptionally well, and there are minor excuses for her last two efforts. She lost five lengths immediately at the start at Goodwood nearly unseating her rider, and she wasn’t entirely disgraced in the Nunthorpe when racing without cover for the most part toward the unfavourable near-side on ground slower than ideal.
I’m under no illusion she has to improve to land this, but on the balance of this season’s form she’s certainly overpriced with those to the fore of the market. She drawn between likely pace angles in Miss Yechance and Diligent Harry so she should get a good toe into the race. She successfully landed a valuable handicap this time last year in newly equipped aids, so the first time visor is of interest as is the booking of Connor Beasley, as I’m not entirely sure she’s been ridden to the best effect of late.
Ayr Racing Tips (Saturday 19 September 2026)

13:20 Ayr – Ladbrokes “Bet £5 Get £30 New Customer Offer” Handicap (Class 2) (3yo+ 0-100) – Rainbow Nebula 16/1 1pt EW 4 places
Rainbow Nebula posted a career best effort when a comfortable length winner at Redcar earlier this season and has returned to that last winning mark following a string of defeats.
He proved it was no fluke when a staying on fourth back at Redcar up in class behind the subsequent John Smith’s Cup fourth Danger Bay. Again, he was hardly disgraced when sixth at York next time out, faring best of those to come from rear.
He went off the boil twice thereafter, but he was back on track last time out when second at Goodwood, beaten just a length into third.
His record in mile handicaps in a visor reads 101 so it’s interesting the yard return to the successful form of headgear, and while he is stepping up in class again, it’s hardly the strongest of class two’s. If the forecast rain arrives, it’s difficult to envisage he won’t be on the premises late on from bottom weight, if backing up that latest effort.
15:40 Ayr – Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3yo+) – Volterra 25/1 1pt EW 6 places
Several to the fore of the market have intertwining form-lines and anyone of them could pop up here, but an alternative angle is the classy Volterra, who is entitled to come on from effort at Doncaster in the Park Stakes last week.
The Farhh gelding doesn’t have an awful amount of wiggle room from a mark of 108, but I’m intrigued by this drop back to six furlongs as he’s displayed plenty of early speed in his racing of late.
After his Ascot handicap success in October 2024, I thought he could be the type to pave his way in stronger company. He’s not entirely been disgraced since, finishing close up behind the likes of Ten Bob Tony and Remmooz.
He’s had just two races this season, and his latest effort is perhaps excusable having been eased off late on following a 168 day break. That came in Group 2 company, and I still believe he has the ability to figure at a level similar.
His stride data suggests he is sharp enough to cope with this drop in trip, and that backs up the dam-side of his pedigree given he’s out of an Equiano mare who was a dual winner over six furlongs, and he’s a half brother to a multiple five furlong winner including at Ayr for the yard.
He will certainly have to come on for that latest effort, but I’m strongly in favour of this drop in trip and if able to return to his peak form, he could prove to be classier than most in this field despite the burden of a lofty weight.
